No
senior run
To the Editor:
In the July 2nd "Around
About" column, the writer
made a statement ..."to be a
Senior run program."
How ironic ! The local senior
program in the last few years
has not been a senior-run
program, instead it is a
program dictated by a couple
people with assistants.
Last spring, at the closing of
the Center meal site, 75
seniors from Heppner, Lex
ington and lone signed a paper
asking that the meal time be
continued at 4:30 p.m., with
only two or three wanting a
noon meal. Also, 70 some of
those asked that the meals be
continued at the Center and
the lone Church, with only two
or three wanting a move. The
wishes of the group were
promptly ignored.
Waste of rate payers' dollars

In July 1978, before moving
the meals from the Elks
building, one of the "bosses"
hauled some 30 of the Seniors
to the Fair Grounds, telling
them what they were to have.
One by one, the Seniors got up
and expressed their disap
proval about such a move.
Recently at an AAA (Area
Agency on Aging) meeting,
when announcements about
the Heppner Meal Site were
being made, a gentleman
from the John Day Mealsite
got up and made a statement
to the effect that it didn't
sound much like "Senior" run.
I don't like to see the Seniors
who have supported the Senior
Meals through the years,
being badgered with many
untruths.

is a waste of rate payers'
