VanSchoiack yard chosen Eeney, Meeny, Meiny and Mo(
Heppner Yard of Month
The yard of Martha VanSchoiack. at the corner of Chase
and Cannon Streets, has been selected Heppner Yard of the
Month, according to a Heppner Garden Club spokesperson.
A story and photograph of Mrs. VanSchoiack's selection Is
forthcoming.

re-drawn, first
time in 70 years

ver) announced that on June
211, just two dnys before the
cotiHtitutional deadline, the
Oregon State Senate and
House of Representatives both
repassed HR 2001 which re
draws Oregon's legislative
districts. The governor signed
the bill the next afternoon.
"I will still be the represent
ative for the present District
55 until the general election of
K1H2 when all the new House
districts will go into effect."
Rep. Bellamy said. With the
plan, one half of the Senate
districts will be used in 19R2
with the other half (including
all the Eastern Oregon Senate
districts) going into effect in
IttfU. due to the fact that 15 of
the senators' four-year terms
won't expire until that time.

lenges, this will be the first
time in 70 years that the
legislature has reapportioned

Wildlife specialist . hev were handfuls of
fluffv down with onlv a few pin-feathers
showing on the wines of the older one. They
i nri three older ones had been found hungry in
a log deck at the Kinua Mill in Heppner and
passed through several hands.
The older three spent time at school with
S'eve Brnwnfield and then went to the
Brownfield. Ward and Wevgandl homes.
Since them, one has flown awav to freedom,
one met a fatal accident and one is to soon
receive freedom.
Through a series of boxes and a large cage
these four beautiful barn owls are now in a
large outside rage, becoming verv indepen
dent and learning In fly.
Many people, including two rooms of first
graders from Heppner. four rooms of grade
school students from Hermisfnn. the slnrv
hour group at the Heppner i.ibrarv. nnd
others at the Neighborhood Center and the
Pioneer Nursing Home have enjnved seeing
and learning about barn owls the pellet, the
diet, the coloring of their unique heart-shaped
face.
Anhorn said she probably learned the most
as she cut up ground squirrels for their
feedings, read in books to learn about them
and listened to them hiss, stomp and flap their
wings at her.
"Tears of sadness and gladness will be
coming soon as they progress to indepen
dence and freedom to the great outside
world," Anhorn concluded.

passed with a good margin in
both Houses. 52-fi in the House
of Representatives and 20 0 in
the Senate .
"House Bill 2001 brought
about considerable changes in
the district which I presently
represent." Rep. Bellamy
slated. Under this new legisla
tion. District 55 was reduced

from an eight -count v district
to one with only two counties,
with Jefferson and northwest
Deschutes county including
part of the city of Bend East
Linn. Marion and Clackamas
counties, formerly part of
District 55. were joined with
districts which are completely
west of the Cascades. Wasco.
Sherman and flilliam counties
are now included in a five
county district with Hood
River and Wheeler counties
Finally. Morrow Counlv was
joined with the three counties
of Crook. Grant and Raker.
The new Congressional dis-,
tricts. including the new 5th
district, have not yet been
drawn but the legislature is
not pressured with a deadline
to make those decisions.
