By MARY LEE MARLOW BOARDMAN Former Con- gressman Robert Duncan, now a Portland attorney, spoke to the graduating class of River side High school at the exercises held in the school gymnasium last Thursday evening. The in vocation was by the Rev. George Neeley, pastor of the Boardman Community church, and the benediction bv the Rev. Herbert Vaughn, pastor of the Irrigon Community Baptist church. Salutatorians were Shirley Ann Dixon and Carol Ann Har per. Michael Paul Partlow gave the valedictorian address, Mrs. Wayne Kuhn sang, "Climb A High Mountain." Ron Daniels, school principal, introduced the speaker, and al so presented the class to Max well Jones, member of the Mor row county school board, who gave out the diplomas. The processional and reces sional were by Mrs. Albert Part low, organist, and Mrs. LaVern Partlow. pianist. Daniels presented the saluta torian and the valedictorian their trophies, and announced the following scholarships; $t50 to Blue Mountain College, Don Jorgenson; $500 to Blue Moun tain College, Ronald Hinkley $1,000 to Blue Mountain College, Lincoln Dodson; One year free tuition to Blue Mountain Col lege, Linda Senn; $100 to East ern Oregon College, Carol Anne Harper; $200 to Northwest Col lege. Shirley Dixon. Michael Partlow received an Honors Pro gram Award from the Univer sity of Oregon. The Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority held its May meeting here at the Nomad Restaurant's Acacia Room. Host esses were Mrs. LaVern Partlow, Mrs. Zoe Billings, both Board -man: Velva Bechdolt, Heppner, Gladvs Ely, lone; and Ruth Bentlev and Joy Smith of Irri gon. There were 56 present. La Velle Province conducted the meeting. Mrs. Harold Baker, Mrs. Zoe Billings and Mrs. Roy Partlow had a picnic for the first and second grades, and the kinder garten at the highway park last Thursday afternoon. Friday afternoon Mrs. LaVern Partlow held a wiener roast at her home for her fourth grade pupils. of Bend. Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Mershon and children Michael, Klise, Chris and Perry of Port land, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Ev ans and son Brian of Troutdale. Also Mr. and Mrs. Lou Wells of Pendleton, and Mr. and Mrs, Irvin Engalls of I'matilla. Mrs. Childers served a buffet supper at home following graduation exercises. Mrs. Adolph Tech of Medford was here for graduation, visit ing her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips. Visitors at the home of Mrs. Roy Partlow for graduation were her mother, Mrs. Marie Golden of Portland, and her daughter. Mrs. Bob Davidson and small son. also of Portland. Visitors last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Harper included Harper's uncle and aunt. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Jor chow of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ward and son Stuart and daughter Car olyn of Adrian. Ore., and Mrs. Denver Glenn of Parma, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Warber of Mesa, Wash, were visitors last week at the home of Mrs. War ber's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gantenbein. Mrs. Gantenbein's niece, Marie Schmuck of Portland was also a visitor, as was the Ganten bein's daughter, Mrs. Tony Branco of Areata, Calif. Mrs. Gantenbein is recuperating at home after having extensive leg surgery in the Good Shepherd hospital in Hermiston. Gary Hascall of Halfway is visiting his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Part low, at the home of Mrs. La Vern Partlow. Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Shannon have returned home from sever al days visit in Spokane, Wash, at the home of Mrs. Shannon's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Christiansen. Mr. and Mrs. Rollin Bishop were visiting in Walla Walla, Wash, three days last week at j the home of Bishop's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. 1 Robert Bishop. Mr. and Mrs. Chub Warren! went to Corvallis last week to ! attend the graduation exercises in which their grandson, David Skoubo, was among the gradu ates. Mrs. Harold Rash returned home Sunday from the Good Shepherd hospital in Hermiston ' where she had foot surgery the first of last week. Margaret Beall and daughter Pat of Eugene visited last week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hayes. Memorial Day visitors at the. home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard) Bedord included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fortham of Ontario, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mead and Mrs. Larry Farrar and son Ronnie of The Dalles. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Ely over Mem orial Day were Mrs. Grace Ty ler and her sons and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ty ler and sons Marvin and Paul, and Lawrence Tyler, all of Port land. Mrs. Frank Marlow spent Memorial Day in Pendleton vis iting her brother-in-law and sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Smith, and Mrs. Clarence Thomas. Mrs. Leo Root went to Wasco last week to attend the gradu ation of her grandson, Maurice Root. Robert Chilman sang "God Is My Shepherd", accompanied by Mrs. Chilman, and the Riverside High chorus sang "The Lord's Prayer", directed by Chilman. Rev. Neeley presented each senior with a Bible, which is a gift from the two Irrigon churches and the Boardman church. Daniels also presented co salutatorians Carol Anne Harper and Shirley Ann Dixon their awards. James Harper presented the most inspirational baseba 1 1 player award to Bob McRae, and the following baseball varsity letters: seniors Bob McRae, Chester Phillips, Mike Partlow; juniors Greg Bedord, Richard Franke, Dick Linnell, Bob Bu chanan; sophomores Bob Skou bo, Albert Phillips, Jody Tatone, Bruce Buchanan; J. V. letters to Randy Ryan, Jerry Downey, Richard Ryan, David Franke, Tom Stewart; manager, Donald Hinkley. The most inspirational play er award in basketball went to Chester Phillips. Ronald Black presented the F.F.A. chapter with two awards a superior chapter award plaque presented by the nation al F.F.A. ; and a banner for tak ing first place in the Blue Moun tain District skills contest this spring. Other awards given out were: to Mardee Childers by Lester Leroux for excellence in chem istry; to Mike Fossey by Nancy Leroux for excellence in math ematics; and scholastic press award was given by Ruth Coy to Carol Anne Harper. Mrs. Ronald Black was host ess for the Boardman Tillicum Club Tuesday night of last week at her home. Mrs. Ron Daniels was co-hostess. Mrs. Roy Partlow, Mrs. Black and Mrs. Vernon Russell were appointed as a committee to work on the scholarship that the club is donating the mon ey taken In at the recent Style Show. Discussion was held on a pos sible tour of the Boeing testing site. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Carroll Dono van June 13. There will be on ly one meeting a month dur ing the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Dono van went to La Grande for Par ents Week-end at E.O.C., and attended the play "Mad Wom an of Chailott", in which their daughter Sharon played a part. Dwight Morgan and son-in-law, Charles Hobson of Rose burg, visited the first of last week at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ball, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Zearl Gillespie. Morgan and Mrs. Ball started to grade school together In 1906 at the Goosebeny district school in the south end of the county. Mr. and Mrs. Neil Sutton and daughters Ella and Sally went to Riverton, Wyo., last week to visit at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Croft. They return ed by way of Spokane, Wash., to pick up their daughter, Mrs. Virgil Morrison and children Kenny and Raedell, who return ed here with them to visit sev eral days. Sutton took them home the last of the week. Mrs. Terry Moore of Portland was a week-end visitor at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Greg ory. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chilman were called to Ontario last week for the funeral of Chilman's grandmother, Mrs. Laura Con naughty, 63, who died May 20. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Risley and Mr. and Mrs. Claud Worden are Worden's sister-in-law, Mrs. Les lie worden of McMinnville, and his cousin, Mrs. Gladys Yaples of Tecupa, Calif. Mrs. Frank Marlow was a week-end visitor in Pendleton at the home of her sister, Mrs. Clarence Thomas. Mrs. Ron Daniels entertained a group of youngsters at her home last Thursday in honor of her daughter Vickie's sixth birthday. Guests included Joe and Danette Daltso, Lisa and Wendy Mittelsdorf, Lori Russell, Karen Gregory, Carol Ann Don ovan, Kathy Farlow, Kristie Ba ker, Joanie Partlow, Rocky and Ivy June Neeley and Scott Daniels. Mrs. Joe Tatons was hostess for a bridal shower at her home Saturday night in honor of Pat ty Beall of Eugene, bride-elect of Leonard Bedord, Jr. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Rollin Bishop, Mrs. Don Downey, Mrs. Arthur Allen and Mrs. Kenneth Jenk ins.
