HEPPNER GAZETTE lone Rebekahs Plan By ECHO PALMATEER The Three Links club of Bunch-grass Rebekah lodge met at the home of Mrs Wate Craw ford Friday afternoon, June 26 with Mrs Arvilla Swanson as co hostess. At the business meeting conducted by Mrs Cecil Thome, president, it was decided to have a picnic in the city park this summer, Mrs Thome, Mrs Ernest Heliker and Mrs Harvey Ring were appointed to select a date. A card was sent to Mrs Hugh Bell of Condon who is ill in the Pioneer Memorial hospital. Mrs David Rietmann received the door prize. Kelly Gabbert of Downing, California; and Cynthia, Diana and Ly Ann Meyer of Portland are visiting at the Wallace Mat thews home. Mr and Mrs Ernest Heliker and Mr and Mrs Donald Heliker went on a fishing trip to Ochoco Lake last week. They also visited the Clifford Yarnells at Madras. Mrs Gordon White and daugh ter, Lona are visiting in Port land and Forest Grove. Pete Cannon and children and Mrs Echo Palmoter spent the first of the week at the home of Mrs Palmateer's sister. Mrs Ha zel Beers at Eagle Creek. Mrs Beers returned home with them. Nicky Y a r n el 1, 12 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Clifford Yarnell of Madras and great granddaughter of Mrs Kathryn Yarnell of lone, has been chosen princess of the Cen tral Junior Rodeo at Redmond July 11 and 12. The fire truck was called out Sundav evening to put out a crass fire near the Ida Cole man home on the Delbert Emert ranrh. It was burning near a barn filled with hay. A pink and blue shower was given in honor of Mrs Leiana McKInney in the lone Commun ity church parlors Thursday ev ening, June 25. Mrs James Petty john and Mrs Malcolm McKin ney assisted her with the gifts. Arleta McCabe played a piano solo and Marlene and Anita Crawford gave a tap dance. Refreshments were served from a table decorated with roses. Mrs L A McCabe served the punch and Mrs Earl McKinney poured the coffee. The room was dec orated with lillies, carnations, and pinks. Those attending from a dis tance were Mrs Malcolm McKin ney from Wasco; Mrs Earl Mc Kinney from Hermiston and Mrs Walter Ruggles from Lexington. The hostesses were Mrs Ida Coleman, Mrs E Markham Ba ker, Mrs Harold Sherer, Mrs Al vin McCabe, Mrs Marion Palmer, Mrs Keith Rca, Miss Ann Belle Coleman and Miss Mardine Ba ker. The social meeting of the Top ic club was held at the home of Mrs Mabel Cotter Saturday after noon with Mrs Fannie Griffith and Mrs Verner Troedson as co hostesses. Pinochle and bridge were piayeu. inose receiving prizes were in pinochle, Mrs Her bert Ekstrom, high; Mrs Omar Rietmann, low and Mrs Marion Palmer, 300 pinochle. Mr and Mrs Jack Brindle (Jan et Mason), of Portland are the parents of a son, William Jos cph, born June 20. Mr and Mrs Dorr Mason of Hines and Mr and Mrs Brink of Portland are the grandparents. Mr and Mrs Carl Bergstrom were al so Portland visitors last week. Connie Campbell of Connel, Wash is visiting her uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Lloyd How ton. The 411 Saddle club, "Have Horse, Will Ride" were very suc cessful with their pony rides Thursday and Saturday of last week. The money will go to ward purchasing flag pennants and other things for the parad at the Morrow county Fair and Rodeo. Mr and Mrs Fredrick Martin spent this week in West Linn and Astoria. Mr and Mrs Martin attended a high school class re union in Astoria Mr and Mrs Ray Barnett re turned home Wednesday of last week from over a week's vacat ion. They visited his brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Floyd Barnett at Eureka, Calif. On their way down they went through the Oregon Caves, the House of Mys tery and the Trees of Mystery, They came home through the Redwoods and stopped at the Sea Lion caves. Also stopped in Port land and attended the Centen nial. Mr and Mrs Milton Morgan and son, Gary, and Rollo Craw ford spent a few days on the Columbia River at McNary last week. Three boats, including the Morgan's went through the locks Friday taking the princesses and the queen of the Acqua Capers and the officials to Umatilla They then went to Pasco where the queen and court were shown on T V. , The Ted Hewitts have solved the problem of weeds on vacant lots. They have one of the best gardens in town on a vacant lot on Second street. The 4-H Cooking club met at the Milton Morgan home Thurs day afternoon, June 18, with Mrs E Markham Baker as their lead er and Marilyn Morgan, the jun ior leader. Mr and Mrs Charles Doherty are the parents of a daughter, Joan Marie, born June 25 in the St Anthony hospital In Pendle ton. Weight 8 lb 1 oz. Mr and Mrs Byron Bradshaw of Albany and Mrs Margery Doherty of Pen dleton are the grandparents. Great grandparents are Mrs . S Bradshaw, Albany and Ben amin Collins, Seattle. Committees for the next six months are the following; ways and means, Mrs Al Lovgren, Mrs Claud White, Mrs John Berg strom and Mrs Ray Drake; en tertainment, Mrs Orlan Wright, Mrs Deb Wright, Mrs Barton Clark, Mrs Frank Parker and Mrs L L Robbins. Committees to remain the same for the balance of the year are; publicity, Mrs Paul Warren and Mrs Rod Murray; relief com mittee, Mrs Huston and hospi tality, Mrs Adrain Bechdolt, Mrs Henry Baker and Mrs Doug Drake.
