I also want to thank the doctor and hospital staff for the care given me. Lena H Kelly 17-c BY RITA WOLFF Handsomest news at the hos pital is the installing of the per manent aluminum awnings on the upper level of the west side of the building. These awnings add to the comfort of the patients by lowering the temperature in side six to ten degrees. They also will lower the cost of operations of any air conditioning system added later. Mr and Mrs Robert Lowe re turned June 24 from a two weeks vacation through the Northwest. While in Portland they attended the Ice Capades and the Centen nial exposition. They visited friends and relatives in Tacoma and Seattle and enjoyed boating in Puget Sound and American Lake. On returning to Heppner they brought with them their grandson, Master Patrick Ryan for a week's visit. He was later joined here by his mother, Mrs Rose Ryan and returned to Port land last Sunday. On June 8th a surprise double birthday party was given for Mrs Bill Blake and Mrs Sam Nagel. Cake and coffee were served. Mrs Margaret Nichols, Lexing ton, is a new nurses aide work ing on night duty. Mrs Millie Morris is back at work after a week's vacation. Mrs Erma Thomas, whose hus band is a Union Pacific rail road employee in Heppner, is helping in the kitchen at the hospital. Mrs Neva Britt is a new nurse- ing home patient. Harry Bongers, hospital ad ministrator, has just returned from a meeting in Bend,- Ore gon of the Oregon Association of Hospital Accountants. It was attended by accountants and ad ministrators from all over the state. The hospital auxiliary quarter ly meeting will be held Monday, July 6, in lone Legion hall at 8:00 p m. They were also joined there by Mr and Mrs Newell Vaught and daugh ters Gail and Kelly of Richland, Wash, and Mr and Mrs Harold Dodson of La Grande, and all spent the night at the park. Mrs Eldon Shannon is spend ing two weeks at her home here from Goldendale, Wash, accom panied by her daughter, Mrs Joe Lamberson and small daughter Lisa Kay, of Pittsburg, Pa. Oscar Veelle, Jr is visiting his -brother-in-law and sister, Mr and Mrs Bob Stewart, having just completed his basic training In the U S Navy at San Diego, Calif. Mrs Claud Coats returned home last week from a two weeks trip to Anchorage, Alaska, where she visited at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Glenn Mallery. Mrs Dewey West was hostess for the Tilllcum Club Tuesday night of last week at her home. Mrs Ronald Black was appointed secretary to finish this year to replace Mrs Sigvald Aase, who resigned as she is moving to Echo soon. Final plans were made for the princess dance the club will sponsor in Heppner, July 18. Mrs West and Mrs Ralph Skoubo are in charge of publicity. The club will serve coffee, punch and hot dogs at the dance. Music will be furnished by Rod Esselstyn's orchestra. The club is entering a scrap book contest sponsored by the General Federation of Women's Clubs from May, 1959 to May,! 1960. I A discussion was also held on tne Kind of Christmas doll to have this year, and the decision was made to get a baby doll. The next meeting will be held July 11, the place to be announ ced later. Sunday she appeared at the Oregon Centen-j nial, and was presented with a scroll commemorating the Cen tennial by the president of the Centennial board. Miss Ralphs, 19 will be a sophomore at Brig ham Young University at Provo, Utah, this fall. She is the daugh ter of Mr and Mrs LaVern Ralphs of Ferron, brother-in-law and sister of Black. The Blacks returned home Monday and the Wests went on to Seaside to spend several days. and children and Judy Darnielle, Mr and Mrs Joe Cornelison and John Spence and Mr and Mrs Jones and children.
