4 ' HEPPNER GAZETTE-TIMES, Thursday, February 12. 1959 g g gociAL Happenings Heart Fund Film Shown to Sorority The Beta Omega chapter of Ep silon Sigma Alpha meeting was held at the home of Mrs Delmor Crawford Wednesday evening, Feb 4, with Mrs Harold Snider, Mrs Charles Hudson and Mrs Donald McElligott as co-hostesses. Rev Rydgren of Heppner show ed a film of the Heart program and Mrs L F Leathers gave a report of a board meeting at the home of Mrs Barbara Sckorney in Portland. The district council meeting was tentatively set for March 22 In Wallowa. The group voted to send $10 to the gavels and $7.50 to the district fund. Mrs Charles Doherty gave the educational program on "Whats New in Fashions." The Morrow County Grain Growers will furnish pens for the international convention in Port land to represent Beta Omega chapter. What's Trumps Meet At Gribble Home The What's Trumps bridge club met at the home of Mrs Lowell Gribble last Wednesday afternoon for a salad luncheon. Guests were, Mrs Gene Fer guson, Mrs Claude Graham, Mrs P W Mahoney, Mrs Allen Case, Mrs Raymond Ferguson, Mrs E K Schaffitz, Mrs Earl Blake, Mrs C E McQuarrie, Mrs Bruce Spen cer, Mrs L D Tibbies, Mrs Tom Wilson and Mrs Robert Penland. Mrs McQuarrie had high score, Mrs Mahoney was second, Mrs Blake, third and Mrs Graham, low. Mrs Reed Honored At Recent Shower Sharon Case entertained girls of the senior class of Heppner high school recently at ner nome with a dinner and shower in hon or of Mrs Kay Reed. Mrs Lewie Case were, Mrs Reed, Susie Mc Quarrie, Jeann Moe, Kuthie Pet erson, Rhoda Ott, caroiyn mc Daniel, Janice Driscoll, Janice Martin and Carole Anne Anderson. Mrs Runnion Given Birthday Dinner Mrs V R Runnion was honored on her birthday by a dinner party at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs La Vern Van Marter, Jr Monday ev ening. Those present were, Mr and Mrs Runnion, Mr and Mrs Archie Ball, Archie Ball, Jr, Mrs Elaine George, Kit and David George, Mrs Sadie Sigsbee, Mr and Mrs Gene Hall, David and John Hall, and the Van Marter children, Marie, LaVern, and Paul. Holy Name Society Breakfast Served ""The Holy Name breakfast was served at the St Patrick church CnnHnu mnrnine tit 11:30 a m. Thirty four men attended. Those in charge of the Kiicnen were, Mesdames Bill Kenny, John Wil liams, Harry O'Donnell Jr, Pat O'Brien, and Conly Lanham. Dis cussion was held about the forth coming ham dinner to be given on St Patrick's uay. Sans Souci Rebekahs Hold Initiation At Friday Meeting The regular Sans Souci Re bekah meeting was held Friday, Feb 6, with the regular Noble Grand, Mrs Gerald Rood presid- ng. Forty one members were pres ent and sixteen out of town vis- tiors attended. Hardman, Lexing ton, Grass Valley, The Dalles, and Stanfield were represented, Draping of the charter was held for a departed member, Mrs Lennie Louden. A silver cake serving set was presented to the lodge by past Noble Grand, Mrs Clarence Bau man in memory of Mrs Louden. Initiation was held and Mrs Freida Slocum of Hardman was initiated for Mistletoe and Mrs William Heath of Heppner was initiated for Sans Souci. Visitations by several mem bers of Sans Souci were made to Hardman Tuesday and to lone Thnrsrtnv for lone initiation. A eift was presented to the dis trict deputy president, Mrs Merle Kirk, Past Noble urana, Mrs Clarence Bauman. There was a report on Great Decisions meeting, attended by Noble Grand, Mrs Rood and Vice Grand, Mrs Glen McLachlan and committees were appointed for balance of the year. One trustee, Mrs N D Bailey, elected to a three year term, replaces Mrs Pearl Devine. Plans were completed for the card party on Valentine's Day (evening). The next meeting will be held, Feb 20. Refreshments were ser ved by Mrs Rufus Piper, Mrs Clarence Bauman, Mrs Glen Mc Lachlan Mrs Archie Padberg. Mrs R G McMurtry was re freshment chairman. Pies were furnished by members and visitors. Hardman Rebekahs Give Two Showers Mistletoe Rebekah lodge no 25 met Tuesday afternoon with Ida Lee Brisbois, noble grand pre siding. Members of the lodge served the banquet for the Livestock Association on January 18 and it was decided to have the newly purchased electric heaters install ed at once. King's Little Queens Meet at O'Donnell's The King's Little Queens bridge club met Thursday night at the home of Mrs Harry O' Donnell Jr. Mrs Clint McQuarrie was co-hostess. Those attending were, Mesdames Bill Blake, Les Wyman, Pat O'Brien, Phil Blak ney, Harry Bongers, Bill Glennie, Paul Koenig, Herb Hamilton, Jer ry Daggett, Bill Sowell, and Max Barclay. Mrs Wyman won high for the evening and also Jack high, Mrs Elakney won second high, and Mrs Dagett won low. Counsellors Hold Practice Cook-Out The Pathfinder counsellors had a practice breakfast cookout Sun day morning at Cutsforth Park. The purpose of the outing was for testing certain recipes for outdoor cooking preparatory to taking Individual club units for cook-outs. Those attending were, Glen Way, and his brother Dick Way of Portland, Mrs Harold Huber, Mrs Harry Ring, Mr and Mrs Taul Waehter, and Mrs Clifford Wagner. Shannon Farley Celebrates Birthday Miss Shannon Farley celebra ted her fourth birthday with a rartv at the home of her par ents, Mr and Mrs James J Far ley Thursday afternoon. Her Guests were Bockv Webb, Bob- ette Jones, Cathy Trussing, Shel- lev and Kelly Wolff, Marie Van Marter and Tracy Norene. Games were played and refreshments served. OREGON Barbecued Pia is Birthday Party Fare A joint birthday party was cel ebrated Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Irvin Rauch in Lex ington, honoring Mrs Rauch and her brother, Mr Louis Penney of Kennewick, Wash. Those enjoying a spit barbe cued pig served up with an apple in its mouth, were Mrs Rauch's parents, Mr and Mrs D Z Penney of Echo, Mr and Mrs E A Hoosler of Pendleton, Mr and Mrs Julian Rauch of Hermiston, and child ren of Mr and Mrs Irvin Rauch and the children of Mr Penney. home of Mrs Kenneth Batty in Heppner. The motion carried xo accepi a recommendation presented for Evalyn Farrens to receive me Degree of Chivalry from the lodge. She has been an active member for 42 years. It was asked that all members be present at Sans Souci Rebek ah meeting on Friday night when Mistletoe lodge will pre sent a candidate for initiation. Mrs Gribble and Mrs Van Marter were high partners, and two couples, Dr Wolff and Mr Mea dor, and Mrs McQuarrie and Mr Van Marter tied lor second.
