IOM HEADLINES By ECHO PALMATEEH The Altar Society of St Wil liams church, met at the home of Mrs Gar Swanson Thursday evening, Nov 20 with Mrs Pat Doherty as co-hostess. At the meeting the following officers were elected for the coming year: Mrs Howard Crowell, president; Mrs Charles Doherty, vice-president; Mrs David Baker, secretary and Mrs Donald McElligott, treasurer. Mr and Mrs E W Bristow and Mrs Ernest McCabe made a trip to Portland one day last week. They visited at the Tommy Bris tow home. Katrina Bristow re turned home with them for a visit Mrs Fannie Griffith Is spend ing the holidays with her daugh ter and family, Mr and Mrs Dwlght Haugen in Oswego. Mrs Robert DeSpain entertain ed the Bridge club at her home Friday evening of last week. Mrs Gene Hall received high prize; Mrs Walter Corley 2nd high and Mrs Delmer Crawford, low. The H E C of Willows grange held a very successful bazaar, food and pie and coffee sale at the Rebekah hall Friday, Nov 21. They also served a dinner to the Morrow County Grain Grow ers in Heppner Monday evening, Nov 17 and cleared $240. The Jimmie Morgans moved into the Mabel Davidson house on second street Leann Padberg was elected queen and Greg Leyva was elec ted king at the carnival at the school Friday evening, Nov 21. After the business meeting pinochle was played and those receiving prizes were, Mrs Cleo Drake, high; Mrs G Her 'mann, low; and Mrs Eldon Tuck er, 300 pinochle, Mrs Cecil Thome the door prize. Mrs Milton Morgan and Mrs Raymond Lundell entertained .the Arnica club at the Morgan home Wednesday afternoon of last week. Pinochle was played after the business meeting. Mrs Adon Hamlett received high prize and Mrs Dallas Shockley, low. Favors of small baskets of flowers were given to all present. 1 Mr and Mrs Bill Rietmann re turned home Thursday of last week from a two weeks trip. They went to San Francisco and to Los Angeles where they visited Mr and Mrs Robert DeSpain. They returned home by way of Las Vegas. Mr and Mrs Oscar George are the parents of a son, born Nov 17 at The Dalles hospital. Weight 8 lb and 714 oz. Mr and Mrs Harvey Smith of lone are the grand parents. Mrs Kenneth J Smouse enter tained at a party Wednesday evening, Nov 18 in honor of Mr Smouse's birthday. Others present were Mr and Mrs Ken neth Peck, Mr and Mrs Norman Nelson and Mr and Mrs Alfred Nelson and Mrs Ella Burgoyne. Mrs Elmer Holtz entertained at a iewelrv Dartv at her home Wednesday evening of last week. Mr and Mrs Everett Hummel and daughter, Susan of Beaver ton were guests at the John Eubanks home last week. Dr Hummel is an official of Port land State and was a former superintendent of the lone schools. Mrs Richard Rea and Mrs , Thomas White were Portland vis itors last week. I Miss Judy Mason student at Pacific - University, spent last weekend at the Lewis Halvor sen home. Hardman Rebekah lodge visi ted Bunchgrass Rebekah lodge Thursday evening, Nov 20 and : brought the traveling key. Mrs Thelma smetnursi, nuuie gianu elect, of Hardman lodge presen ted the key. Others present from Hardman were Mrs Evelyn Far rens, Mrs Dolly Fraters, Mrs Lu n cnrrish Mrs Vern Battv. and Mrs Mildred Wright. The follow ing officers were elected lor Bunchgrass for the coming year, Mrs Eva Hamlett, noble grand; Mrs Lucile Rietmann, vice grand; Mrs Edith Matthews, secretary and Mrs Mary Swanson, treas urer Bunchgrass plans to take the key to Stanfield lodge Mon day evening. Refreshments were furnished by Hardman lodge. The 4-H leaders training in sewing was held at the home of Mrs Louis Carlson, Friday. The leaders are, Mrs Carlson, Mrs C E Brenner, Mrs L A McCabe, Mrs Merritt Gray, Mrs Andrew Van Schoiack and Mrs Kenneth Batty. Miss Esther Kirmis, dem onstration agent, was also pres ent. The next meeting will be in Pendleton, Dec 12. Recent visitors at the Robert DeSpain home were, Mr and Mrs Tony DeSpain of Cascade Locks and Fred Painter, Sr, of Port land. Lt LeRoy Brenner of Moses Lake Air Force base, spent tlje weekend with his parents, Mr and Mrs c E Brenner. A large crowd attended the card party at the Masonic hall Saturday evening which was sponsored by the Eastern Star Social club. Those winning prizes were in pinochle; Herbert Ek strom and Mrs Edna Turner, high; Verner Troedson and Mrs Franklin Lindstrom, low and Mrs Walter Corley, 300 pinochle. In bridge, Mrs E R Lundell, high; Mrs Arvilla Swanson, low and Mrs Walter Ruggles, Jack high; Lewis Halvorsen received the door prize. Linda Rowell drew the doll and wardrobe. Refresh ments were served by members of the club. The members of the P-TA serv ed a chili supper in the school cafetorium Friday evening or last week and cleared around $25. Mr and Mrs David McLeod and children spent last week at Junction City with relatives. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Howton cele brated their 25th wedding anni versary Sunday, Nov 23. Dinner guests' at their home were Mrs Glen Campbell and son, Gene, and Mrs Larry Campbell of Echo. Mr and Mrs Clinton Agee of Heppner and Mr .and Mrs Wal ter Jacobs and family of lone. Several friends called In the evening. An open house will be held In Connell, Wash for the Howtons, Thanksgiving day with the John and Claude Campbells as hosts. The Walter Jacobs will also attend the reception. ' j 18 members of the Pilgrim Fellowship high school group of the Community church cleaned up the city park Saturday. Mr, and Mrs William Rawlins, Rev, Floyd Bailey, Robert Bailey and Mrs Fredrick Martin also assis ted. Following the clean up the group were given a party at the Ray Heimblgner home. The group were paid $20 by the Garden club which went toward their pledge for the Fellowship. They now have their pledge fulfilled. Mr and Mrs Dallas Shockley are spending a few days in Spo kane, where he is attending an educational meeting. Her mother, Mrs Peterson of Battleground, Wash is staying with the Shock ley children.
