INSURANCE BONDS REAL ESTATE NOTARY PUBLIC Simplification of Tax Law Favored OREGON STATE COLLEQE The major needs in the simplifi cation and improvement of Ore gon's tax structure are for emer gency tax measure provisions and a change in the personal tax law to make funds available as gene ral revenue, tax experts attending the recent State Tax conference at Oregon State College report. Th tax experts members of the legislative interim tax andj that Oregon's tax system is super ior to that of neighboring states but does need some remodeling. Cronemiller outlined the proce dure to keep the Christmas tree in first class shape until ready for use: (1) Saw a slanting fresh cut immediately above the original cut. This will permit tree to ab sorb water. (2) Place the tree base in fresh water. A bucket or deep pan will do. (3) Keep tree outside in a cool place until ready to bring into the house. After bringing the tree In the house, again place the trunk In a bucket or pan of water. This moisture will continue to keep the 'tree fresh and green and will also render it less susceptible to fire. Cronemiller said that forest ry officials-had made many tests with chemicals but none were as satisfactory as plain water as a preservative. As long as the tree trunk is kept in water, the needles will remain firm and green for a considerable period. Cronemiller stated that weights could be placed in the bucket to keep the tree erect. Also, stands, with water devices . for holding trees, may be purchased at local stores and Christmas tree lots. Duvalls Honored With Dinner Party Mr. and Mrs. Vivian White en tertained recently with a dinner honoring Mr. and Mrs. Harry Du vall. The occasion marked the anniversary of the couple as well as Mr. Duvall's birthday. Other guests attending were Mr. and Mrs. Niel White of Pilot Rock. Tips Given on Keeping Christmas Trees Fresh Christmas tree hints on how to keep your tree fresh and beau tiful were given out by Lynn F. Conemiller, assistant state forester. "If you live in the city", the forester said, "chances are that your Christmas tree nas oeen cut a week or two earlier and should receive care immediately to pre vent dis-coloration and falling of the needles. Christmas trees are like any other plants and respond when the base is placed in water and kept in a cool place."
