Mr. Corey, Attorney for the Co op, explained the measure that was to be voted upon. Mr. Engle, Mr. Jarvis and Mr. Farrow were re-elected and the measure carried 128 yes 13 no. Nine prizes were given away. Mrs. Lillian Stubblefield of Monument won the Electric Blan ket; Mrs. Wilbur Reynolds of Dale won the Electric Clock; Ralph Farrow of Long Creek won the Coffee Percolator; Mrs. Felix Johnson of Long Creek won an Electric Timer; Stanley Musgrave of Top an Electric Clock; Orm Montgomery of Ritter, a set of Plastic Tumblers; Harold Cork an Electric Grill; Stanley Boyer of Monument an Electric Clock; Warren Consonant "of Ritter a Toaster. Anna Lesley, who has spent the past two weeks with her daugh ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Smith of Pendleton, re turned to Monument Saturday. She accompanied Mr. and Mrs. S. Andrus. George Stirritt and grand daughter, Laura Lee Shank spent Saturday and Sunday in John Day visiting Mrs. Stirritt and Mrs. Shank. Mrs. Shank has been moved from the hospital to her aunts', Mrs. Iffie Stewart's home in John Day. The Grange sponsored a dance Saturday, December 6. Farrows of Long Creek furnished the music. Mr. and Mrs. Gilman Shaw of Long Creek were business visitors in Monument last Saturday. Mrs. Guy Montgomery of Ritter, mother of Mrs. Jack Sweek of Monument, passed away at her home Wednesday morning. Mrs. Montgomery had been in poor health for sometime, however, she was able to spend Thanks giving in Monument with her daughter and family. Her son, Russell Peterson of Los Angles flew to Pendleton and was met by Mr. Montgomery and came to Monument. Another daughter, Mrs. Mary Pounders, daughter and aunt of Spokane were also met in Pendleton by Mr. Mont gomery. They were all weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sweek. Funeral services were held in Pendleton. Mr. and Mrs. Chet Brown left Friday for Salem to attend a family get to gether of the Browns. Mr. and Mrs. George Capon were in John Day Friday. Mr. Capon had a medical check up while there. Mr. and Mrs. S. Andrus and son of Pendleton were over night guests of Mrs. Andrus' grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Durst, Dec. 6. Red Henderson of Prineville and Mr. Belcher of Salem were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Chet Brown at the Guard Station on Thursday. They spent the day invoicing. Every one is looking forward to the Christmas program sponsored bv the grade school on December 23. A dance will follow the pro pram. SUf UNION PACIFIC Lewis Batty was attending to matters of business in Heppner December 3rd. Wave Jackson was hostess at her home last Thursday for the M. M. M. club. There were fifteen present. The hostess asked each one present to tell a Christmas story and gave a prize to Helen Brown for the best story; while Delcla Sweek received the con solation prize for not knowing a story. Fayr Sweek donated the white elephant which was won by Millie Wilson. Refreshments were served by the hostess. The next meeting being the Christmas meeting will be held at the home of Lydia Capon on December 18. D. Mather of Lyle Washington was in town December 4. He stated he hoped to have his equipment here so he could start a crew digging holes and setting poles on the R. E. A. line from Service Creek to Monument This is welcome news for the Monu ment community. LUTHERAN CHURCH Lutheran services will be held this Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3:00 p. m. at the Civic Center. NEED Envelopes, Phone 882 Bridal Shower Given at Boardman For Miss Miller By Flossie Coots Mrs. Elvin Ely, Mrs. Eldon Lilly, Mrs. Bill Lilly, Mrs. Ralph Skoubo, Mrs. Clyde Tannehlll and Mrs. Arthur Allen wer co-hostesses at the Elvin Ely home last Thursday for a bridal shower honoring Miss Mildred Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Miller, who re ceived many nice and useful gifts. About fifty ladles were present. Miss Miller is to become the bride of Harold Baker, son of Mrs. Adeline Baker, December 21st. Weekend guests at the Rollln Bishop home were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Moore and Pat Green of Portland. While here the men folk enjoyed goose hunting. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Tannehlll and daughters, La Grande were over night guests Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Tannehlll. Pfs. Fred Knight spent Sunday and Monday at Sunnyslde, Wash., with his father Lei Knight. ' Mrs. Chas. Nickerson returned home from La Grande Friday where she was called to attend the funeral of her sister, Mrs. Alice Reed on Thursday. The Rev. Walter Duff, Dallas, Oreg., National president of Vil lage Missions preached the morn ing sermon at the Boardman Com munity church, going on to Kent, Oregon for the evening service. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Skoubo and son David returned home Friday after several days spent in Port land, j Mr. and Mrs. Fred Thomas are the parents of a baby daughter, born in the St. Anthonys hospital. Pendleton November the 24th. This is the sixth child for the Thomas'. I The contractor Frank Lohse has begun pouring the concrete for the new school gymnasium, thel first was poured Friday of last week. The Boardman Garden Club met Monday evening December 1st at the home of Mrs Claud Coats with Mrs. Ed Kunze as co hostess. The club voted to hold the "Prayer for Peace" meeting Monday evening December 22nd at the home of Mrs. Nate Macom ber, also each member Is to bring an apron to be sent on to the State Hospital for Christmas. Mrs. Glenn Carpenter displayed sev eral Christmas decorations, in cluding two beautiful Christmas wreaths. The next regular meet ing will be In January at the home of Mrs. Chas.
