Chaulauguans Made Money at Ashland o f the association, has chosen the fol­

The success o f the 15th annual assem­
bly o f the Southern Oregon Chautauqua,
which closed at Ashland the 20th ult.,
was quite gratifying, the receipts being
considerably over $2000 for season and
admission tickets, leaving a surplus
#ver fixed charges and current assembly
expenses o f several hundred dollars.

forward to this year, which makes the
financial results this year the more
gratifying.
President G. F. Billings has been
elected for another year, which will
make his 13th year in charge o f the
assembly. The other officers chosen

Dr. E. L. House, formerly o f Port­

young and old Chautauquans in his
physical culture work, and as a result
a club was organized to be known as
the "Hundred Year Club,” which will
encourage individual treatment by
weekly or monthly instruction or exhi­
bition meetings. The officers o f the

Jud Pernoll, the well-known baseball
pitcher, who has been playing with
the Grants Pass team for several years,
has finally been called to Portland to
take a place on the Rose city ’s league
team and one day last week tried out
in a game with Los Angeles, when he
made good with a vengeance. Pernoll
fanned six o f the Angels crack batsmen
and won the game in a walk. Manager
McCready did not allow the new man
to finish the game, however, and at the
end o f the sixth inning put Hartman in
the box, but Pernoll had the gam e won
at that point. Jackson County and all
Southern Oregon will watch this son
with interest and will fully expect to
sec him keep up the splendid record he
has thus early established for himself
among crack ball players.
