Bridge Bill Favored. The bouse passed the Nolt Inter state brdgv bill and enabling act In troduced by the Multnomah delega tion. Tb bill provides that certain coun ties may Issue bonds for Interstate bridges and may deduct yearly from lb county taxes du tb Ute the in terest on the bridge bonds as the state's portion of the expense of the bridge. Without amendment and bnt few dissenting votes, the so-called eight hour day bill was passed by tb house on reconsideration. The bill also pass ed the senate and waa signed by Gov ernor West The bill carries an appropriation of $7000 for the two 'year between ses sion of the legislature to take car of the work of the commission which Is authorised to have charge. None of the commissioners are to recelv salaries, however. Minimum Wage Bill Passed. The house minimum wage bill pass ed the senate and now becomes a law unless vetoed by the governor. Stated briefly, the minimum wage bill provides for a commission of three to be appointed by the governor, oonalBtlng of on employer, on em ploye and a third unbiased person. On the commission Is conferred power to tlx a reasonable minimum wsge tor women and child workers, hours of employment and conditions of labor. The law carries an appropriation of $3600 a year. Mrs. Laird passed through this city Monday morning on her re turn to Portland from Fossil. A valentine arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Evans last Friday. It was a fine baby girl. C. S. Temple, manager f the Buckhoin ranch, was in this city the first of the week. He started plowing on Monday with two large gangs. George McKay of Waterman and A. B. Scott, formerly of Hawarden, Iowa, and one of the recent purchasers of the McKay ranch, were in this city on Monday. The bouse adopted a resolution di recting the submission to the vote of the people, st the next general elec tion. constitutional amendment lengthening the session of tb legis lature from 40 to 60 actual working days, and raising the pay ot the legis lators from $3 to $5 a day. Tb house also adopted compan ion resolution directing that an am endment be submitted to the vote of tho people providing that two sessions shall be held first session of 20 days, then temporary adjournment, and then an sfter-sesslon, and per manent adjournment The reason for the two Is that It would give legis lators more time to consider bills snd secure tb senUment of tb people with relation to measures submitted. Referendum Date Is Set. Day's bill, providing for special referendum election, to be held Sep tember 2, passed Uje senste. It In voked considerable debate, being ad vocated warmly by Day, Moser, Thompson, Bean and others and op posed by McColloch, Miller and Neun er. Bull Moose Are Recognized. The Bull Moose party will be able to participate In the primaries before the city election In Portland under tb provisions ot a bill that passed tb senate. This bill provldeV that any poUUcal party casting 20 per cent of the vote at the preceding eletion may participate In the primaries. N The bill also carries an emergency clause which will allow the participa tion in the Portland primaries. The bill was Introduced by Senator Carson at the request of the Progres sive party committee. Industrial Girl's Home Favored. In the face of an adverse majority report, the Moser bill providing for tb establishment of an Industrial Home for girls passed the senate with 18 votes" In Its favor. It Is amended so as to provide $25,000 a year tor the next two years. The institution is to be lecated on ground now owned by. tb state at Salem, if the bill becomes a law. The institution is to be con structed on the cottage plan. The. Arlington Lumber Co. shipped a carload of hogs to Portland Monday. Chas. Iremonger of Fossil was in this city Monday morning on his way to Portland. Crawford & Lyons shipped a carload of hogs Tuesday to the Portland market. F. It. Bangs arrived in this city Monday evening from Port land and expects to remain dur ing the summer. Jas. Wallace left on Monday morning for Baker. Visitors are not allowed in the forenoon as stated in the article but are allowed between the hours of 2 and 5 in the after noon and between 7 and 8 in the evening.
