NEWS OF THE WEEK Kenneth Welsohns visited at Clem Sunday and Monday. D. B. Thomas made a flying trip to Arlington Monday. M. J. Lynch came up' from Gwendolen Wednesday to look after I usi.iess matters. R. M. Rogers returned Mon day from Salem where he went last week with two prisoners for the state penitentiary. Mrs. A. Larsen and daughter, Miss Mabelle, returned Mon ' day to their home in this city after an extended visit in west ern Oregon and in Washington. Miss Larsen has resumed her work at the post-office. Mrs. Larsen visited in Salem. R. Stanton who has been work ins at the carpenter trade in Idaho, arrived in Condon Mon day evening for a few days' visit with relatives and friends. He is foreman of a warehouse build ine crew and will go from here to points along the Columbia River where several jobs are waiting. This office is in receipt of a letter from Arthur Schilling in The Dalles requesting the man agement to be sure to mail him a copy of The Globe each week as he says it is the only way to keep in touch with happenings of interest in this county. The Model Restaurant will be open for business next Sunday and will serve dinner. Gong Lane says he will conduct a first class eating house. For many years he conducted a restaurant at Heppner. He has made ex tensive improvements on the Searcy building, secured new linen and fixtures and has an at tractive place. Mrs. W. A. Darling is agent in this city for the famous tailors, Chas. A. Stevens & Bros., mak ers of ladies' garments. Mrs. Darling is ready to take orders for suits, silk waists, skirts, etc Call at residence opposite Sum mit Hotel, Condon. Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Rice left Condon Tuesday morning for The Dalles where Mr. Rice ex pects to engage in the clothing business. Mr. and Mrs. Rice will be missed in social circles. Mr. Rice is held in esteem by his business associates and took active interest in the Wheat City's athletics. E. Wheir, the Justice, marries lots of people now-a-days and he likes it mighty well E. The semi-annual conference of this district of the Latter Day Saints church was held in that church, in this city, on Saturday afternoon. The officers elected were: A. J. Moore, of this city. president; J. C. Clarke, of Port land, vice-president; and A. E Laslie, of Portland, secretary. ine next uonierence meets m Portland in the latter part of February. The elders attending the conference from outside points were Elder Keeler and Elder C. T. Chapman, of Hood River. Senator Fulton to Speak Here. Hon. Charles W. Fulton, Uni ted States senator from Oregon and one of the foremost orators in the United States senate, will address the people of Gilliam county at Condon on Friday evening, October 16th. Senator 1 Fulton is a close personal friend of Mr. Taft and was also a mem ber of the national convention which nominated Mr. Taft for president and probably is in a better position to make a speech from a Republican standpoint than any other man in the state. Moore and family left last week for Port land where they expect to make their future home. They drove across country to The Dalles and took the boat from there. These estimable people have lived in this vicinity for many years and have a host of friends here who regret their departure. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Moore accompanied them and will reside in the Rose City during the winter, returning to the ranch west of Condon next spring.
