XV, NO. 35 Home Of National Guard Platoon Both IV Squads Five Valley Churches Join in Presenting Christmas Cantata Sunday Drop Gaines lo Ashland High "The Dawn of Christmas” is a cantata to be presented to the public by the Union Choir this Sunday night, Dec. 21 at the Leg ion hall at 8 and tonight, Friday, at the Jerome Prairie Community church at 8. Under the direction of Mrs. Frances Reinoehl, the choir is com posed of singing groups from five Valley churches. .Mrs. Elsie Kroon is the accompanist. Churches represented in the Un ion Choir include Wonder Union Chapel, Selma Baptist, Kerby As sembly of (rod. Cave Junction Community, and Bridgeview Com munity. Ten numbers are included in ths cantata and are: “Hail. O Blest Redeemer,” choir; “Tell Us of Ou> King,” men’s chorus, women’s cho rus; “O Night of Peace,” duet Rev. Douglas Field and Rev. Paul Kroon; “Shepherds ’Neath a Star lit Sky,” duet, Mrs. Phyllis Saffer Miss Lylabelle Cross and women' chorus; “Glory to God,” men’ chorus, solo by Louise Horner, choir; “Away in a Manger,” alto solo Mrs. Doris Field; “We Have Seen His Star,” duet, Rev. Homer Thompson “At the Cradle of Jesus,” sopran. solo, Mrs. Lois Spencer; “The Bell Ring Merry Christmas,” choir and women's chorus; "The Dawn of Redeeming Grace,” trio, Mrs. Pearl Thompson, Mrs. Alice Bow erman and Dean Warren; “Come and Worship," choir. ---------- - Woods Accident Sends Welch to Hospital A power saw accident and fall ing tree sent Wilson Welch of Kerby to Josephine General hos pital with a gashed head and brok en wrist. He was working for the Hinds and Sams Logging Co., and wa; falling a tree about 20C yards from the Oregon Caves hiway nea ■ Little Grayback Cr. when the ac cident occurred . As no one witnessed the acci dent details are not exact, but it is believed some part of the power saw Welch was operating, possibly a broken chain, hit him, leaving a gash in his head at about 11:15 a.m. A tree falling at about th«, same time is believed to be respon sible for Welch’s broken wrist. He was taken by Valley Ambu lance for treatment at the Medical Center and then into Josephine General. ---------------o-------------- Western Star Installs New Officers Dec. 27 Carolyn Covington was elected worthy matron of the Western Star Chapter No. 54 when it met Tuesday, Dec. 16, and will be in stalled Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. Other officers elected and t>> be installed include George Mul vey, worthy patron; Dorthea Reyn olds, associate matron; Harry Campbell, associate patron; Edna Cooper, secretary; Helen Looper, treasurer; Ruby McFarland, con ductress: and Thelma Blue, associ ate conductress. The annual “St. John’s” dinner will be Dec. 27 at 12 noon for Masons and Eastern Star mem bers. Members of the DeMolay and Job's Daughters will serve. Retiring Worthy Matron Ruth Masters thanked her officers for their support during her term of office and was presented with gifts from three of her officers, "Sippy” Covington, Carolyn Cov ington and George Mulvey. Later during defreshments. Worthy Ma tron-elect Carolyn Covington pre sented her with a floor lamp, a gift from the officers. A gift exchange and refresh ments ended the evening. The tables were decorated with Christ mas candles and greenery, with favors of miniature candle nold- ers and red candles. -------------- o-------------- POSTOFFICE OPEN For the convenience of its pa trons, the Cave Junction postoffice will be open tomorrow, (Saturday) from 2 until 4 p. m., for stamps and mailing packages only. Peters and varsity squad will travel to California this weekend to tackle two large schools not previously played by IV.
