News Blue Mountain Eagle Wednesday, March 28, 2018 A7 Prepare to be ‘Amazed’ by fair headliner, Lonestar By Angel Carpenter Blue Mountain Eagle Fairgrounds manager Mindy Winegar announced the country mu- sic band Lonestar will be this year’s Grant County Fair headline enter- tainment, playing Friday, Aug. 17, in John Day. She said, with the great entertain- ment lined up, “The fair is going to be amazing.” Lonestar has been cranking out country music hits for more than 20 years — a few of their many familiar tunes include “Amazed,” “Already There,” “My Front Porch Looking In” and “Mr. Mom.” “Amazed” is the band’s biggest hit, lasting eight weeks at the top of the Billboard country chart, with over 1,650,000 digital copies sold. The song also reached the Bill- board Hot 100, one of only two coun- try songs in the 2000s decade to do so. The Lonestar musicians include Richie McDonald, lead vocals, pia- no; Michael Britt, lead guitar, back- ing vocals; Keech Rainwater, drums; and Dean Sams, keyboards, acoustic guitar, backing vocals. Nate Botsford, a Portland-based singer/songwriter, will open for Lon- estar and will also perform after the concert. Botsford’s hybrid style is a fresh take on musical influences, which include Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, as well as two piano-playing grandfathers. He has described his work as “blue- grass-country-rock with a little bit of pop in there.” Concert gates open at 6 p.m., and Botsford opens at 7 p.m. VIP tickets are $65 with seating close to the band and no-host bars with alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. General admission is $30 with seating (or standing) in the grandstands. Admission for people 12 and under is $15 with seating (or standing) in the grandstands. All tickets also provide free ad- mission to the Grant County Fair that day. The 109th Grant County Fair is scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday, Aug. 15-18. Three positions on the OTEC board are up for election at the 30th annual membership meeting April 14 at the Harney County Fairgrounds, 69660 S Egan Ave., Burns. The election results will be announced at that time. The candidates are in- cumbents Austin Bingaman, Union County; Wayne Over- ton, Baker County; and Gary Miller, Grant Coun- ty. All candidates are run- ning to serve a three-year term. OTEC voting members will be able to cast their ballots by mail or may hand deliver their ballot to the meeting. To vote by mail, the signed and sealed ballots must be received by April 10 or delivered in person to the meeting. Members voting by mail may also enter a contest to win a $500 energy credit to be awarded at the meeting. Ted Ferrioli, former state senator and current member of the Northwest Power & Conservation Council, will moderate the event at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the Grant County Fairgrounds pavilion. Each candidate will be al- lowed to speak for five min- utes, with an opportunity for a three-minute rebuttal.
