VALLEY RECORD. Drowned in Klamath River, Elmer CalkinB, aged 20 years and Miss Hannah Garvey, an estimable young lady, both of Yreka, last Sunday ac companied James Garvey and wife to the Iunker mine on Klamath river,Honolulu, 18 miles from Yreka. Returning home ward Calkins drove the team in which he and Miss Garvey were seated onto the Freshour ferry. No danger was appre hended, but soon a line became tangled , about the wagon pole, a horse became j frightened and pulled off a bridle, the horses began backing and before the occu pants knew it the team was shoved into Klamath river, drowning Miss Garvey and Mr. Calkins,as well as the two horses. The free concert given by the band boys last Saturday evening waa a grand success. Over a thousand people were seated in the Chautauqua tabernacle, listening with rapt attention to the dulcet strains that belched forth from the gold en-throated instruments. Every selec tion was received with rousing enthusi asm. The fifteen youths in cloth of fire and gold, were fully equal to the occasion, and executed each piece with accuracy and perception. Leader O.
