    VALLEY RECORD.
Drowned in Klamath River,
Elmer CalkinB, aged 20 years and Miss
Hannah Garvey, an estimable young
lady, both of Yreka, last Sunday ac
companied James Garvey and wife to the
Iunker mine on Klamath river,Honolulu,
18 miles from Yreka. Returning home
ward Calkins drove the team in which
he and Miss Garvey were seated onto the
Freshour ferry. No danger was appre
hended, but soon a line became tangled
, about the wagon pole, a horse became
j frightened and pulled off a bridle, the
horses began backing and before the occu
pants knew it the team was shoved into
Klamath river, drowning Miss Garvey
and Mr. Calkins,as well as the two horses.
The drowndiDg people were seen cling
ing to the buggy cushion-seat for about a
mile down the river when they en
countered a whirlpool and sank from
view.

and executed each piece with accuracy
