Instead of the reg- thority on the matters about which it speaks, I venture to call attention to the plain and unequivocal language above employed by the Saviour in speaking of His second coming. Thomas, who seems to have been the most difficult of the disciples to convince by nature cautious and critical rendered posterity a service when hc'brotight out by a question the very important truth declared in the sixth verse of our text. "I Am the Way" Jesus had said to them. "And whither I go yc know, niid the way ye know'.'1 Thomas broke in with n protest: "Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way'' To this the Saviour replied. "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh nnto the Father, but. by mc." A volume might be written upon this sentence. Here Christ sums up sll of His teachings in nine words, or in twelve words if the propositions way." The conflicts that disturb the Church and mislead the unwary are not conflicts between truths, but conflicts between the opinions nf men and the Word of God. , Men have been members of a race, exponents of a class, or spokesmen of a period; Christ alone waa univer sal. Are you bob bing your hair according to your type? Whether you are old of young, aylph-like, or inclined to be atnut, there is a bob to euit you perfectly, according to Charles Nestle, New York hair specialist and originator of the permanent wave, in an address before a convention of hairdressers here. "If you are a fleshy woman, never get a fluffy bob," said Mr. Nestle. "The bob should ho, plain and neat in outline. If you have a very round face, a straight bob will not be be coming. He has exalted the heart and en dowed it with a love as boundless ns -the sea; He bus ennobled it and filled it with inspiring purposes and a holy zeal. If Christ be Master of man's boy, miud, and soul and only then man can rise up to, and live upon, the exalted plane to which tho Creator invites nil His children. The words of verse seven were spoken to the disciples, but they are for all people and for all time. When wo know Christ we know the Father; We know the Father's wisdom, for it illumined the word8 of Jesus; we have aeen tho Father's love, for It glowed in His tenderness, in His forgiving spirit and in tbe sacrifices that Ho made for man, ' Verses 13 nnd 14 are the basis of all prayers that sock tbe fnvor of God through the interccsion of Christ. He has promised to be our Mcdicator at the throne; we can in voke His name with tho assurance that the Heavenly Father will recog nize tbe claims that are made on the promises of His Son. The Measure of our Love Verse 15 gives us a test; we can examine ourselves and determine the measure of our lovo for Christ by the fidelity with which we observe His commandments. A protestation of love is mockery if tho life is incon sistent with the profession. Tho Spirit of Truth is the Com forter which Christ promised to send "whom the world cannot receive" and yet the world is impudent enough to deny that there is a Spirit of Turth merely because it knowcth not the truth nor Him by whoso prayer it is sent. The world is the antagonist of the Church of the l....iv-Ing-God, but the world and the Church do not battle upon the same plane. Spiritual things are spiritu ally discerned. What avails it if the blind deny that there is such a thing as light? As little vnlue can be at tached to tbe declamations of those who decry religion because their eyes bavo not been opened to spiritusl things. Our text would he intensely Inter esting if it merely recorded the con anlatlon offered by Jesus to those who were His immediate followers (and on Ihia occasion His only enm pnnionH), hut the words are inspir ing when we accept them as spoken to us as well ns to His disciples. They convey unspeakable comfort and consolation to Hie multiplied millions who are humble followers of our Lord nnd Saviour Jesus Christ. ' (Copyright 1(15. by the Republic Syndicate).
