Benefit Tea Will Be Event Of , January 24 A yearly affair that is of wide Intorest to Eugene society is the ben efit bridge ten which members of the Eugene Daughters of tie Nile club sponsor. The event this year will he given Snturdny, January 24, at the Osburn hotel between two nud four o'clock. Plans are being mnde to entertnin with five hundred, bridge, whist, and sewiug. Each year the club uses tho pro coetls for aiding tho crippled children in the SJirine hospital in Portlnnd. At a luncheon held nt the Os burn hotel Wednesday chairmen of tho committees in charge of the tea met to discuss plans. Those at the meeting were Mrs. L. E. Bean, presi dent of the club; Mrs. E. A. Droste, general chairman; Mrs. Daisy Pat terson, refreshments committee; Mrs. Hoy Smith, table committee; Mrs. Fred Chess, ticket . committee; Mrs. Wayne Green, reception committee; Mrs. Fred Crosby, diversion commit tee; Mrs. Bay Glass, entertainment committee. The predominant color of pink came with the artistic arrangement of vary ingly shaded pink carnationa which were used with masses of greenery. Newcomers Are Honor Guests A t Parties Among the several very pleasurable affairs being given to welcome Mr. and MrB. Leland Johnson who have come to Eugene to make their home were the two supper parties for which Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Tooze entertained at their home this week. On Sunday evening they invited four teen and last evening entertained a party of eighteen. Following the supper last evening cards wore played. . Shakespeare club members met Monday afternoon to continue the study of the play Hamlet. The meet ing was particularly Interesting this week because of the discussion of the play given the preceding Saturday by Fritz Leiber. Mrs. Edwin L. Knapp had interviewed Mr. Leiber . while in Eugene, and led in tho study Monday, and the members all discussed the play and its presentation from vnri ous angles. - Whilo practically the entire club attended the play, twenty three had reserved seats together. Mrs. A. L. Lomax will entertnin members of , the Eugene Daughters of the Nile club on Wednesday afternoon of the coming week at the CraftBtnen clubhouse, Fourteenth avenuo east and Kiucuid streets. At the meet ing plans will be discussed for the benefit bridge tea which will be given this month. Mrs. Herbert Olsen was hostess to members of Inter So club at her home Thursday for a luncheon. In two weeks the group will meet with Mrs. E. 1'. Parks. Mrs. Winifred Kuykendall will be hostess to Teacup club members this coming Friday. A very pretty wedding was that of Miss Florence V. Thorpe and Edwin O. Boehnko who wero married at the home of Dr. and Mrs. W. II. Dale, 1175 Eloventh avenue cast, Sunday afternoon. The ceremony was wit nessed by a few friends and rela tives of the couple, and Rev. Randall Scott of Springfield officiated. Little Georgia Dale preceded the bride down the stairway as ring bear- er, carrying a pillew of lillies of the valley. The bride proceeded unat tended to the altar which was simply but effectively arranged before the fireplace, banked with palms, ferns and white gardinios. Preceding the ceremony Huben C. Goffriere played Mendelssohn's wedding march, and Miss Johanna James sang "Because." The bride wore a lovely .yellow georgette crepe, 'elaborately beaded, and carried a shower bouquet of lilies of the valley and ophelia rosebuds. Following the ceremony a wedding luncheon was served, the table being most beautifully decorated with a center-piece of white tuber roses, lil ies of the valley, and gypsophela. During the luncheon Miss James ssng "I Love You Truly," "For You Alone," "At Dawning," and "Song of Love." MrB. Boehnke has been in Eugene for several years, is a graduate of the Ellsworth college, Iowa Falls, Iowa, and of Walter Reed hospital. Mr. Boehnke was a member of the 3Stb Division in France, and is with tho Eugene Guard Printing company. They left for points north, and will be at home at St. Francis apartments, after February 1. Mrs. W. O. Starbnek entertained the Eighth Division of tho Methodist Ladies' Aid society at her home Tues day afternoon. Mrs. W. K. Newell and Mrs. B. J. Jenkins were assist ant hostesses. Mrs. Ernest Stroud, Mrs. Barklcy, and Miss Bessie Day were guests for the meeting of the Wednesday Bridge club which was .entertained this week by Mrs. Jerry Horn at her home. Mrs. J. W. Miss Grace Jewell Dunbar ployed a number of piano solos. Miss Cecil McKercher gave a group of recita tions, and Miss Jean Harper played several piano solos as a musical pro gram for the afternoon.
