All connections were made promptly with little or no waiting and conversations were clear and distinct. The long distance line was in operation and free service was extended to subscribers to Tortland. All who tried it ex pressed satisfaction with the prompt service and distinctness of conversa tions. In view of the fact that the business on the Tortland end was handled as regular routine business, no soecinl arrangements having been made to accommodate tho'free service n Independence, continuation of the satisfactory service is assured. After trying the line and seeing the superior service given eight new applications -ere booked on the first day. the excellent showing made and the umber of satisfied patrons is very gratifying to the officers of the new company.
