Six of these electric turnatilea have been purchased by the management of the fair, and four will be installed at the entrance to the grandstand and enclosure. The machines are the identical ones lined at the gate of the St. Louis world' fair in 1904. The appliance will do away with ticket seller and ' gate keepers and other employes at the entrance. It will be necessary to have a man on the inside to make change, a the slot will not admit any other coin than a half dollar. Men will also be needed to watch the crowd to see that, no lead slug or other counterfeit are-in troduced into the slot. The visitor nrtist have his fifty-cent piece ready, but, aside from that 'he will be put - to bo inconvenience. He hands the coin to the man at the gate, who drops it in the slot Thia turns the stile and admits one person. The stile - is immediately locked until another coin is dropped in. ' 1 : Each turning of the stilo is re corded by a machine which adds the number of persons admitted. The number is also recorded by electrical connection in the office of the secre tary, or at any other point on the grounds. At midnight each day the officials of the fair will know exactly how many visitors have passed through the gates during the day. Formerly it was impossible to count the big crowds accurately, and that the attendance could only be estimat ed. The new turnstile has been test ed at the fair grounds at Salem and has been found to work perfectly in every detail. The only difficulty will be the failure of visitors to the fair to bring the right change, but after the first day or two, when fairgoers have be come familiar with the new system, no further trouble is expected.
