The Muckles "thought they would com pel people to swallow mist, but it is the old adage of leading a horse to water. You can lead a horse to watrt but can't make him drink. Prof. Hayes has lately visited Ed monds' S vloon in St. Helen, and nnde Rome splendid shots on their billiard ta ble. He is a noted billiardist, an:l late ly from Montana and Idaho. Mr. S. A. It is rumored the Muckles intend soon "to shut -flown the mill altogether. We 'don't know whether they intend to throw the weight of their brains (?) into the editorial staff of the mist or not. Mr. Charles Smith of Enterprise Landing was in town lately. Charles is a nne-lookinc; yoring man. and would make some nice damsel a fine husband. 'Girls, don't all speak at once ! Judge Moore has received his new Safe. It is a beauty, and cot near $-r00. It will contain the abstract of title of lands in Columbia County.
