Howe, in the employ of the Oregon railway, passed Satur day with his family at this place, returning to his duties on the fol lowing Monday. F. F. Croft, of Albany, and Thomas Kay, of Salem, formerly st'j.-khold-rs in tlie Brownsville woolen mills, paid Brownsville a call during the past eek. The new novelty twister, lately received from Worcester, Mass, has been placed in position and working order at the woolen mills, and is mving good satisfaction. O. P. Coshow has during the pa-t eek sold to P. L. (Jerow, T. A. Rus-ell and Albert Windell building lots in Galbraith's addi tion, also to Fred Webber, one block in Hausman's addition. Rev. A. LeRoy on Thursday re turned from Mood River, at which place he has been visiting his daughter, Mrs. William Rami, and greatly to the regret of his many triends oti Saturday last at the regular church meeting resigned his position as pastor of the Bap tist church of Brownsville. .1. B. R. Morelock has returned from Seattle, paying his family a short visit. The Seattle Hoiiring mills, in which he is interested in company with J. M. Waters and W. M. Blukely, are fast nearitig completion, and will cost wlien completed about 30,000 and will commence operations about the 1st o October. The milling plant will be one i t tne finest of its size (-00 barielscapac ty ' on this coast. Quite a number of our cit izens leave this week for the "div gins " Hops in all the various yard adjacent to Brownsville are thrifty and present a very favorable ap pearance. The present dry pell has as yet done no damaze o the crop. Growers are jubilan' at the trood prices offered, and all indica tions are in favor of a large yiel.: and paying prices. The wheat harvest is progressing rapidlv, the yield beinn over average and ex ceeding the farmers expectations. Potatoes were never more plentiful than now and are smooth, A 1 quality. Although some ot our skeptics have declared that Oregon was not a corn growing country, a glance at the numerous thritty patches in this locality will dispel all such erroneous ideas, for the yield is most bountiful, and the product will compare favorably with any eastern growth.
