To-day is St. Valentines day, on which the little god ith a'bow and arrow and no clothes is sup posed to go prowling the country j oe r huntm: for love-sick swains and maiden. The customs of the day are not so much observed as they u?ed to be, and it has passed out of existence as a holiday. Aalorin. One of the best and cheapest ad ditions that has lately been put upon the market in Astoria was the Kailway addition which was laid out by the Astoiia Keal Estate and Trust Co. of Portland. In four weeks from the time that this prop erty was at first offered for sale every lot had been sold and still there was a demand for them. Some fifty lots were sold to Albany parties and others came too late to obtain any. Owing to the extraor dinary demand for this most desir able property,' the owners have laid out an extension to this addi tion, and have set aside one block only for Albany. That this is most desirable property can be at once seen by refer: ing to tbe record of the Kailway addition which ad joins it. These lots lay within one mile and a quarter from the center of the city and can't be beat in price or location in Albany to-day. Call at the office and see what there is in this. It will pay you to do so. E. G. Beardsly, agent, Broadalbin street. Better Than Kver. I am now better prepared than I have ever been to suit my custo mers in the shoe line.
