The Union Pacifl 3 and Chicago & Roriw: stein Deal and the Oregon Pacific. The people of Malheur county and the citizens of Vale, its princi pal town are' enthusiastic over the Union 1'acific and Chicago & North western deal. ' In announcing the he; alliance, the New !AtIas' says: " ."It means suspenslftn" of further Northwestern' extension in Wyom ing and consequent" abandonment of the fahib'us connectiort'at Boist? KKwith'ie'VOgon'r-Ifaciflc. It is the latter fact'tha't interests all bf 'ua.The Oregon Pacific, no ! longer to tonnect' with the North- 1 A;...n ...ill gieJj"a7 H ill strike;the Union sumably and without a doubt at Ontario. The Sand Hollow survey must therefore be abandoned in favor of the survey through Vale. The'road land people must have had this in view when they with drew from the market all their lands arouu l Vale 'until the rail road location is made,' thev said. Thev have rerentlv refused big mou"ev for ground" around here, All this is srood news to those who have waited, hoped an I prayed for it. It assures Vale of the per manency of the county seat and it assures Ontario a bright commer cial tuture." The 'eople above from the Malheur is simply speculation based on erroneous grounds, the IIik a i i is in possession of information from a highly reliable surce that this deal will not prevent the Ore gon Pacific road from making its eastern connection. The Oregon Pacific company has now among its stockholders and directors some of the wealthy financiers of New York City, and they are pushing the road eastward with more vigor than ever. The Chicago & North western may nof build their road west to Boise City to meet the Oregon Pacific, but is learned from a high oflicial source that the lat ter road will be aided in its east ward extension, instead of being delayed, by the new deal, as many have supposed.
