The IImald's Special Dispatches. San Fraxcikco, aiir. 24. It was learned to-day that iWp follow iriK letter was written to Attorney General Johnson - by Governor Waterman three days ago : . " Sacramento, Aug. 21. Hon. (. A. .Johnson, attorney eenerai Dear sir The arrest of Hon. Stephen J. Field, justice of the supreme court of the United states, on the unsupporff il oath of a woman, who on the very day the oath was taken and often before threatened his life, will be a burn ing disgrace to tke state unless dis avowed. I therefore urge upon you the propriety of at once in structing the dis'trict attorney of San Joaquin county to disinit-s the unwarranted proceeding against him. . The question of the juris dictiOH of the state courts in tho case of Deputy United States Mar shal Nagle is one for argument. The unprecedented indignity on Justice Field does not admit of argument. Yours truly, It. W. Waterman, governor. nagi.e's case. Stockton. Ausr. 24. The district attorney went into the justice's court this morning and iiaoved for a continuance in the Nagle case until Thursday next, and it was po ordered.
