stations and steamboat docks. The
weather is deligLtfal. General
Warner and the Kansas City con
tingert arrived at 10 o'clock at the
Plankinton House, where Commis
sioner Tanner is. quartered. There
a crowd of veterans had gathered,
anxious to get a sight of the pen
sion dispenser. It is estimated that
40,000 strangers are in town, and
the crowd is being swelled by
every train. The city is more
elaborately' decorated than at any
time in its history.

ing Mr. James Steel, administrator
of the estate of the late lien Holla
day, sold at public auction in frnt
of the court house a $300,000 claim,
dje the estate from the govern
ment for Indian depredations com
muted on Holladay's overland
stage route during the war of the
rebellion. There was some
spirited bidding, and finally the
claim was knocked down to Gen
eral llufus Inga'ls for $750, as the
executor of the estate of the late
Mrs. Esther Holladay.
The anginal claim Ben Holladay
presented to the government for
payment amounted to ?(j00,000,
aud President Lincoln at that time
p.omised to see that it should le
uaid ; but before he could jier
sonally interest himself in th
matter the assassin's bullet ended
his glorious life. Subsequently
the Uni'd States senate reduced
the claim to $:;00,000, but its pa: -Bage
never came to a vote. At o:m
time the government offered Beit
Holladay $100,000 for hi demand,
but he refused to accept the com
promise. Last winter Senator Stewart, of
Is'evada, during a visit to this city
told Mrs. Esther Holladay that it
