committee, investigating the work
ings of the inter-Btate cbnimerce
law regarding the Canadian roads
doing business in this country, re
sumed work this morning. The
first witness called was' President
Charles. Francis Adams, of
Schenectady. Mr. Adams thought
the inter-state commerce law in
many cases cruel. Tuoee who
obeyed to lose, those who evaded
it, profited. "I should like, how
ever, to see it universally obeyed
and given fairly." he said. "I
sincerely believe the law has been
better obeyed than ever before. I
know, fer instance, that the large
shippers who have heretofore
practically dictated their own terms
can do so no longer. The inter
state; commissioners, I know, are
doing a good work. The greatest
service the commissioners could do
railroads in genet at, would be to
prosecute the offenders. Nothing
would have better effect on the
situation." Adams thought that
the commerce railroad law be

Lame Deer, Montana, report that
a large party of rineerg Indians,
under the leadership of Grashop
per, have come into the Tongue
River agency for the purpose of
getting up a sun dance among the
Cheyennes. The Cheyennes are
in sympathy with the Sioux and a
sun dance will undoubtedly be
held unless the Indians are over
awed by the presence of a large
body of t.oops. The Crow out
break of last siirnnior had its
origin in the sun dance gotten up
by Grasshopper, ami was held at
the same place.
