The loss of life was forty-six enlinted men and four offii ere of the United States navy, and ninety 6ix men from the German men-of-war. The names of the U. S. officers lost were: Captain C. M. Schoon maker, Paymaster F. H. Armes and Clerk Koch, of the Vandalia, and Lieutenant Sutton, ot the marine corps. At the nary department it is stated that there are no vessels on the Pacific coast ready to be sent to sea and in view of this fact the officers and crews of the lost ves sels will be sent home by the usual transportation methods. The gale occurred Marcn 15. The Trenton a id Vandalia are total losses. The Nipsic is beached and may b saved, though the chances are against it. The Vandalia lout four officers and thirty-nine men and the Nipsic peven men. All were saved from the Trenton. The Trenton and Vandalia's crews are ashore, but the Kipsic't are on board. The German ships Adler and Eber are total losses. The Olga is beached and may be saved. The German losses are n:nety-six.
