Senators Allison and Coil am arrived at noon to-day.' They met at the station bj Private Secretary ilaltord and tak en at once to General Hamsun's bouse and lunched with him. . A prolonged consultation followed, Senator Cullom leaving at 0 o'clock for bis hotel and Senator Allison remained at t be. General. ..It is understood that they came here on invitation, but about the objects ot' their visit there are many opinions, The long consultation of sday, and Allison, remaining over!antK to-morrow, is taken as evidti.ee that be is to go into the -abjipet, will be devoted to discussion as to the other members. There is a feeling here that it is the State and not the Treasury Department he is to occupy. General Harrison wat as reticent as ever when seen this evening, and simply t-uid be bad nothing to give out. While there is no doubt the Cab inet question wss considered at some length, there is no reason to believe the Samoan matter was the chief topic of conversation during the altersoen. Senator Culluui said to a correspondent th:s after noon that the Saiuwan question was discussed, aud while out a: liberty to say what General Harrison thoflghtof the matter, be did give bis own views. Heaiid:! am not in favor ot permitting any country to throw brickbats at u. I am an American all through and think we are big enough to take care of ourselves under all circum stances. However, wlnie the baui oau matter looks serious at present, I believe the coming Administra tion will reach an a.ijustiut-nt batis factory to tbc couutrv. 1 think t'ie solution will be rcuchtu without difncu.ty."' He said there would be no yield mg upon our side, out a settlement would be read. cu on a di;uiticd basis, lie tuougut we would not be without an adequate navy very long and in the mean time there would be no yielding of our posi tion for want of a first class navy. As an intimation of how General Harrison siands on the Samoau question tue trllowiog. from his letter of acceptance is not without interest at tuis time, and may be regarded as very significant io view of what Ssnator (Julluoi taio : "Our relations wituioreiyu powers should be characteiized by trieud iiness aud respect. The right ot people aud of our ships to hospii uole treatment should be insisted upon with digoity. Our natiou la too great botu in material strength and iu moral power to indulge in oluster or to be suspected ot tiaior- ousoess. Vacillation and lneousis tencv are as ii compatible with sue cessiul diplomacy us they are with uationat diuLi'.v. ' When asked about the Cabinet Senator Cullum said: "Allison can uodoubtuuly be in the Cabinet it' he wants to, but I am not at liberty to say whether he intends to go in or not. You can readily understand my position." Te sustain the idea that it is tbe State and not the Treasury Depart ment Allison is to have, the fact th -t the Samoan question is one that would be more uirectly under the State Department is cited. If any other statesman than Allison were to occupy that department, it is claimed that he would have been called here snd not Allison. Senator Cul urn left this evening for Bpringfie.d. Senstor Allison remained at General Harrison's to night, snd wss inaccessible to cor respondents. CaatUli to Mockers. In no other place on tbe farm Is ' it wore' necessaiy to know why to do or not to do a .. thing than in tbe dairy. It i qnite often under stood how a thing should be done, bat ".he way of It has too often left fry others. - And for his reason probably, as much as for any other is there so much inferior batter found in to-day's markets. In the process of batter-making there aio conditions absolutely perfect which ; have never ' been reached. They . may . however, be approached to a greater or less extent, and the. closer a dairyman . comes to, observing these conditions the better will be the quality 'if the Sutler. .Cou'd ; tbe fat ot perfectly pvre; milk, from perfectly heafthy cow,: fed OB the tities at proper times, tMTaken,Tree from all other ingredients, without injuring the fat globules in the kast, tne product would be a qusl ity of batter far superior to nine tenths of the product of to-day. Uoder these conditions, working or alt would not only be unnecessary but absolutely detrimental. Now comes tbe question of hoto maintain as nesr as possible these perfect or ginal conditions. In the firt place must be considered the conditions and forces employ ed to deteriorate the quality. This is done in seveisl ways. The one most sppa'eut ism trying to ss k . the tat g'obules or butter Iroiu tbe serum or milk, by wash, ing or working, or both; the glob ul s are more or less injured, spoil ing tbe ''grain," rendering the bat ter more or less greasy. As above mentioned, the quality of butter which would be tbe sweetest aud kept weli, other things being equal, is the absolutely pare arrcle, that which is worked not at all nor -:tcl. But as this con dition cannot be reached.the diary inan comes as near to it as be can. He works and washes the butter in order to free it from foreign ma terial such as buttermilk, etc.. as possible. However be does not work it beyond a certain point, tor that would break tne grain and render it greasy. Now in order to get rid, as much as possible, ot the remaining we will say buttermilk he adds a certain quantity of salt. This is set away tor some time to "work out,'" so to speak, as much of the remaining material as possible. After a certain length of time it is again slightly worked to keep up this process of elimination. -There is a '-happy medium" to be reached, and that is what eyerj ' utter makej aims at, and hence by knowing why to do or not to do a thing will be nunc apt to quit at the right time, lie will take io the condition at a giauce. and then with a certain amount ot ex perience th result will lea morn uniformly good product. w 4 nil I'areutK allow their children to cough and strain and cough ami calmly say, "Oh it's only a cold," and keep giving them cheap ani dangerous medicines until they are down with lung fever or consumption, when they can be so easily relieved r.y BFXJUS LH KR R.Y COUGH SYKUP?
