The following letter is one written by a Piute Indian, who was attending school at the Warm Springs Indian Agency, and was sent by Dave Holmes, teacher at the reserva ion, to his brother, Dr. V. R, Holmes, as a specimen of the proficiency of the "noble red" in conquering the diflictilties o the English idiom. Cleveland and Don Dickinson are employing every device in their power te make Oregon democratic in the June election. - ' A BRAVE LAD. A Boy Kill a Tramp while Relend lug his Mother. Seattle, Apri I 1 2. Yesterday morning a tramp appreaefced the bouse ot H. M. Giddings, which is situated near Alki point, a prom ontory opposite beattle, and - en gaged is conversation with Mrs. ti- ddings, and her daughter aged 14, and son Paul, aged 17. The man acted strangely but finally went awav. He returned yester day with a Winchester rifle. The mother and her children were frightened and locked the back door, towards which the tramp was approaching, and endeavored to escape by the front door. The man met them and made an attack Ton them. He struck at the little girl but missed her. He then aimed a murderous blow at Mrs. G. with the rifle,' but again missed and the weapon, striking the ground, was broken. He renewed r the attack, when the mother called upon her boy Paul to bring a rifle from the house an, shoot the man. The little fellow did this and as the ruffian was about to resume the attack on Mrs. G. the boy fired, sending a ball through the man's leg at the knee. The fellow ran down to the beach. Later Mis. G. and children followed' him and soon after they reached him be died from loss of blood. . : ,- The identity of the man is not certain, but it is believed he is the person .whose sanity was ques tioned' before the probate " court some time ago. He probably stole the rifle .fronr; Myers's cannery, which was burned the same morn ing, and it is believed he was the person who set fire to it. Fretty Old.
