At the Royal Institution, London
Mr. Wimshurst has exhibted an ex
ceedingly interesting experiment
in which small type placed on a
discrevolving several thousandtimes
a minute was distinctly seen and
read while in motioD. This was
accomplished by means of an elec-.
trical arrangement which caused
brilliant sparks to illuminate the
exact instant only when the type
wa vertical. But forthe buzzing pro
duced by the great velocity of disc
the words would have been sup
possed to be at rest. This beauti
ful application of the electric
spark gives a ready means of" ob
serving any and all changes which
may take place in either matter or
machinery in rapid motion.

maximum frequency is in August
in the China Sea, December; Java
Sea and Southern Indian Ocean,
Febiuary; Bay of Bengal, October;
Arabian Sea, June.
