The workshop focused on doing assessments to save client and Instructor time. After the assessment 1s completed the client and Instructor set objectives and expectations so that each person knows the goal they are working toward. The next step 1s to follow a four step process for sucessful learner performance. The steps are: 1. Give adequate directions. 2. Demonstrate (model) the performance. 3. Give Initial performance. 4. ' Demand Independent performance, this class will help me to do a better job when giving information that a client wants. FAS Is the second leading cause of mental retardation 1n babies and is the only known cause of mental retardation that 1s preventable. FAS is a birth defect affecting babies exposed to high levels of alcohol before birth. FAS produces a number of physical defects, mental retardation and physiological problems. Since medical science has only recognized FAS since about 1973, they don't have many answers to the questions of FAS. However, they do have 2 strong pieces of advice: 1. If a woman Is pregnant or thinks she might' be, she should see her doctor as soon as possible for confirmation and arrange for prenatal care. 2. If you are pregnant, don't drink... for your sake - and your baby's! Our office will be getting slides and information that will be available for clients that are Intereted in learning about FAS.
