Spilyay T ym o o , W arm Springs, O regon Page 2 Electrical short sparks cash machine fire Indian H ead Casino was closed to the public for sev eral hours last Thursday, Oct. 18. An A TM -type m achine, designed to dispense cash and cash winning tickets, caught fire in a back office. This happened shortly before 6 a.m. Damage from the fire was contained to the machine it self, as smoke from the fire activated the overhead sprin kler system. Fire CJiief D an Martinez said the sprinklers poured about 900 to.1,200 gallons o f water into the office where the machine was located. Candy donations welcome at ECE The Warm Springs Early Childhood Education Center is seeking Halloween candy d o n a tio n s fo r the annual E C E Pumpkin Parade. EC E is also welcoming all tribal departments to partici pate in handing out trick-or- treat candy to the children. T h e P u m p k in P arad e starts at 9:30 a.m. on O cto ber 31, a Wednesday this year. N ote that E C E is a “peanut and tree nut free building,” because th ere are children there who are allergic to nuts. E C E w ould appreciate any candy donations that are nut free. H ere is a list o f the candy that would be much ap preciated: Gummi candies, Hershy’s plain chocolate m ini-bars, Rolos, Starburst, N erds, Ju n ior Mints, Sour Patch Kids, Sweet Tarts, D um D um lolli pops, Ring Pops, Baby Bottle Pops, N ow & L aters, Red CPS is asking for donations of candy or goodies to hand out on Halloween. A team o f professional cleaners were called in to re store the carpeting. N o p a rt o f th e gam ing area o f the casino was im pacted by the fire, smoke or water. The public was asked to leave the casino, though, as a precaution. The casino was1 closed for about 10 hours, starting at 5:45 a.m., reopening later that afternoon. Security guards were at the entrance to the parking lot, in fo rm in g the public that the building was temporarily closed. Damage was estimated at around $175,000.. Warm S prings C u lture Class is from 3:30 til 5 today in the basement of the Edu cation Building. The last part of the class w ill focus on “Baby Boards.” Everyone is welcome. Friday, Oct. 19 Warm Springs 4-H is host ing Friday runs for fun this month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Warm Springs Elemen tary Track. The next run for fun is this Friday. Bring your shoes, water and dress for the weather. Youth of all ages and fam ilies are invited to come run for fun! Saturday, Oct. 27 The Diabetes Prevention Program is inviting all past and current participants to at tend a refresher class today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their office on campus. This class is an opportunity to re-moti- vate yourself and get back on track. They will be reviewing the 16 week Native lifestyle balancing courses, as well serving a healthy breakfast and lunch and going for a walk.
