Spilyay Tym oo, Warm Springs, Oregon Page 2 Seniors dinner, Christmas bazaar this Thursday Progress on BIA Fire building The Warm Springs Senior Citizen Christmas Dinner will be at noon on Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Agency Longhouse. This year a Christmas bazaar will be included, so the seniors B y Duran Bobb Spilyay Tymoo Construction of the new Fire Management building is well underway. Ken Lydy, assistant Fire Management officer, says that once complete, the build ing will bring the Fire Manage ment staff together in a 27,000- square-foot building. “We have been split now for several years,” Lydy said. “Within the next year, the build ing will be complete and every thing will be in one compound.” The search for funding for the project began back in 1998, Lydy said. “We’re just now getting to the phase where we’re seeing the construction o f an actual build ing,” he said. By April or early May o f next year, a majority o f Fire Management plans tomove into the new structure, located at the industrial park. The Fire Man agement warehouse will stay in its current location. Warm Springs Construction has done the site preparation work, and is acting as construc tion manager. “They did the ground work Duran Bobb/Spilyay photos. The tribal Construction crew is working at the Fire Management building site. and the flooring,” Lydy said of the Construction enterprise, “They’ll sub-bid the rest out.” “This has been a long time coming,” he said. “It was diffi- cult to get this far, and I’m glad Tribal Higher Education will host a College Readiness Con ference at Kah-Nee-Ta from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 29. The conference is for college students, high school seniors and students who plan on attending college. At the height o f summer, Fire M anagem ent employs around 200 people. In the fall, that number normally drops to about 70.
