The award is equivalent to the title “National Treasure” award that some countries be stow on their outstanding artists. Starting in 1991, Courtney Gold, her sister Bernyce, and Arlene Boileau w orked with Mary Schlick through the Tra ditional Arts Program o f Port land to learn basket, weaving. They helped revive the art of full-turn twining of Wasco bas kets with their geometric images. Courtney Gold has twined baskets non-stop since then.
