First yellow- currant flies have been found in the two emergence cages at the C. E. Bradley farm at at Hubbard. The first flies were discovered Tuesday bv Bradley who has been making daily checks ofj the cages since they were errect-1 ed April 5. County Extension Agent D. L. Rasmussen and Robert W. Kvery, Oregon State College entomolosy specialist, recommended a spray containing 3 pounds, 50 per cent methoxychlor wettable powder in i too gallons of water. Growers with a leaf spot problem can mix me thoxychlor in Bordeaux mixture: 8 8-1 or add 2 pound Captan or I 2 pounds Ferbam to 100 gallons of methoxychlor spray. I After the first spray has been: applied growers should apply ad ditional spray at not more than 7 to 10 day intervals until the berries are harvested with additional sprays after heavy rains. It is pointed out that it is also important that the grower spray not only the currant and goose berry bushes but also interplanted trees as well as trees, brush and other plants adjoining the berry field. They stayed late in the deserted circus headquarters Wednesday night to rehearse their clown charivari. There was a beachball painted black and a chain made of rope to attach to Kelly's tattered trous- er leg. And a bouquet of flowers with a rubber band to fasten I room on the circus train. Letters are going to all Oregon physicians, asking them to help see that the persons most susceptible get the first polio shots. They urged the vaccine be used only for expectant mothers and children 1 to 14 years old. The public was urged to co-operate. Dr. Harold M. Erickson, state health officers, and Dr. A O. Pitman, president of the Stale Medical Society, are sending the joint letter. "If sufficient vaccine Is available by fall, the 15-30 age group should also be given the opportunity to have these immunizations," they said.
