The loca- Committee at Lane County Grange News Foenone The regular meeting tor the Lent County Pomona grange will be held next Saturday, Nov, 27, with the Elmira grange. It will bo an all-day event, and evening, with two meal to be served. Leraae Lorane grange will meet next Tuesday, Nov, 23. Re frethment committee are Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Herendeen and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lynch. The men are to furnish the entertainment. West Paint West point range met in regular session last week. Keportt of the various committees were given. A post-war commit tee, which includes Leon Smith, Perry L. Barber and T. Q. Green, was appointed. During the lecture hour a program on the Thanksgiv ing theme was presented. The Home Economics club' will meet Friday, Dec. 3, at the home ot Mrs. John Adair. The next meeting ot the grange will be held Wednes day evening, Dec. 1. in the (range hall, at 8 o'clock. The sum of $206 was'taken in. , Munsel Lake Resort Sold to Howards FLORENCE The Munsel Lake resort owned and operated the past IS years by Mr. and Mrs. George C. Basford and her father, Fred Ludford ot Eugene, has been sold to Mr. and Mrs. Henry How ard of Glendale, Oregon. The new owners have been hotel operators for several years and plan making several additions and improve ments to the resort. The Basfords will retain their newly completed home adjoining the lake resort Tuberculosis Christmas seals will go on sale Monday, Nov. 22, throughout western Lane county, with the Health association mem bers stuffing and mailing 679 let ters tor the area. Booths will be maintained at the Florence postbfftce by the Theta Rho girls, that persons not includ ed in the mailing list may secure the seals and contribute toward the annual tuberculosis Christmas seal campaign. Carl Severy of Portland has been home recently visiting his wife and other relatives. - Mr. and Mrs. Bill Karnowsky wer called to Amboy, Wn. by the death of her father, Henry Gruber, who died at a Vancouver, Wn. hos pital that day at the age of 74 years. Funeral and burial services were held at Battleground, Wn., Tuesday. The Grubera were rest dents of Cushman in 1929 and 1930 when-he waa employed at the Owens Lumber company. The Scott Lumber company and the Winslow logging company have moved the Canary depot to the other side ot the Southern Pacific tracks, also lowering it to facilitate a loading dock for ties, Edward Dewayne Dunn of Se attle, who was apprehended and arrested here recently by City Po lice Ed Tatom and found to possess illegal gas coupons and suspected stolen car, has allegedly confessed to Washington authorities that the car was stolen and had been re. painted, and the Harry Johnson, from whom he claimed acquiring the car was a ficticious character, Tatom reports. Mrs.-Elizabeth Ward Is visiting her daughter Mrs. Marian Roe at Roseburg. Private Loa Joyce Phillips has received her orders for transfer to Camp Lejeune, N.C., for indoctri nation into the marine corps wo men's reserve. Willamette Senior Party Is 1 Held at School FLORENCE The senior class of Siuslaw high school gave a Sadie Hawkins barn dance at the gym-auditorium Friday night to which they Invited (at a small cost) the other classmen, Mapleton high school, and the Florence grade school eighth grade. Funds will be used to help finance the annual senior skip day. Marian Michael Fraer was ar rested recently by Ed Tatom and charged with maintaining a gam bling game and to soliciting to minors on the streets. He was also arrested by State Officer Albright and charged with selling liquor (beer) to minors at a profit. When tried before Justice ot Peace Charles L. Graden he was fined $25 and costs on the first count and $100 and costs on the second. Clubs Are Active At Cottage Grove COTTAGE 0 ROVE Lions club met recently at the Rainbow cafe for luncheon and a business meeting. Two new mergers were taken into the club, Cecil Beck and Carl Bragg. Rev. George Har dy, of the Baptlat church gave a talk. There will be no meeting Thursday as it Is Thanksgiving. The foUowing Thursday, Dec. 2, the club will have ita annual ban quet honoring members of the football team. The dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. at the high school. The Business and Professional Women's club met at the home of Mrs. William Peterson recently for dessert. It was voted to contribute $25 to the Chinese nurses fund. Mrs. H. B. Breedlove, state chair man, gave a report on the state board meeting in Salem which she attended. The next meeting will be Dec. 1, with Miss Evelyn Veatch and Mias Delia Gallo as hostesses. Our Bouquet Garden club met at the home of Mrs. Charles Young recently. Mrs. Ted Taylor and Mrs. Clarence O. Smith were guests. Mrs. Harold Martin gave the bird report. A. Janelle of Gardiner. Miss Janelle who en listed last October In the WAVES haa been stationed in Washington, D.-C, with the navy hydrographic department since completion of training at the U. S. naval train ing school at Stillwater, Okla. Following a short visit at her home in Gardiner late in Septem ber, ahe reported for officer train ing a Smith College, completing the course there In eight weeks. Upon graduation she enjoyed a tour-day furlough with her sister, Mrs. Phillips Jacques, in Wor. cheater, Mass., before reporting for her new assignment at the U. S. navy training station at Corpus Chrlstl, Texas. . Ensign L. R. Grubbs, ot the maritime service, has been a re cent visitor at the home of his mother, Mrs. W. Grubbs, at Win chester Bay. Schneider, Sr., Reedsport bakery operator, haa completed basic flying training at Pecos, Texas, and has been assigned to La Juta, Colo., for advanced training, according to information received here. Mrs. Schneider (the former Genevieve Hudson of Reedsport) and infant daughter are making their home for the present with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hudson, in Oakland, Cal According to letters received from Lt. Margaret Steelhead, WAC recruiting officer, two sixth graders of Reedsport grade school, Milan Lockett and Lois Ann Leach aged 11 and 10 years respectively, won first and second places in a county-wide essay contest on the subject-"Why I Would Like to Join the WACS, and Replace a Battle Casualty." The contest was sponsored by the Oregon recruit ing and induction district of the United States army, with Mrs. L. A. Rhoden, of Roseburg, serving as district chairman. Essays ot the two local girls will be entered in the state-wide and national con test and should either be Judged state winner she will be taken to Portland and be given the honor of christening one of the ships built and launched there.
