Pig Fourteen Reports Feature Meeting . The County P-TA organiza tion held Its meeting Thursday at the home of Mrs. A. T. Rich irdi, thirty-five memberi, rep resenting fifteen unit, attend ing. Various suggestions and re port featured the program. Mra. J. H. Stamm reminded the group that with the abund ance of potatoes, effort should be made to provide storage this month. Mrs. John Kalkhoven asked that each city unit have at least one representative at each City P-TA council meeting. Mrs. A. R. Fredrlckson, regional state vice-president, reported that each unit Is sup posed to have at least two sub scriptions to the national P-TA magazine. Mrs. Glenn A. Harnden, re porting for the home nursing work of the Red Cross, urged as many ss possible to take these courses. Mrs. Naomi Nichols, assistant county Juvenile officer, dis cussed the Juvenile delinquency problem. Representing the work of the seal sale drive, Mra. H. B. Free land, secretary at the Lane County Public Health associa tion office, presented a pro gram on the seal sales. Miss Maud Carnett, state and county P-TA music chairman, led the group in singing. Next meeting will be the third Thursday in January. THE AUXILIARY to the Na tional Association of Letter Carriers will meet Tuesday evening at seven-thirty o'clock, at the home of Mrs. Herschel Plnkstaff, with Mrs. Ross Bee son as assisting hostess. HELMETTA club of the Pythian Sisters, scheduled to meet on the day before Thanks giving, has postponed Its meet ing to December 1. LADIES of the Moose will hold a regular lodge meeting Friday evening at eight o'clock at the Moose hall. Mrs. Elmer Gelger, associate regent of the college of regents, will be in charge of the program. Initia tion Is scheduled. ' DEGREE OF HONOR will hold its annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Knights of Pythias hall, Tuesday, Novem ber 23, at six-thirty o'clock. The main course of the dinner will be furnished by the lodge. DORCAS Society of the First Christian church will meet Tuesday evening at seven-thirty o'clock, at the church annex, to do Red Cross sewing. Hos tesses will be Mrs. Lowr.a Bradford, Mrs. . Carl Draper, and Mrs. Carroll Adams. Garden Club Show Proves Of Interest; Members Do Work For Hospital Many visitors enjoyed the display of chrysanthemums at the flower show of the Eugene Garden club, held this past week. A table of the large Turners occupied the center of attention. Many other inter esting types, especially tho Spider type, were displayed. The grand prize winner In the horticultural section was the lavender Turner "Rose Day," exhibited by Gordon Fish. Other blue ribbon winners for their Turner entries were Mrs. Roy Carlton, a white; Mrs. T. C. Anderson, a red and a bronze; Mrs. T. McKenzle, a yellow, and Mr. Fish, a laven dar. Winners of blue ribbons in the other divisions of the horti cultural section were: Mrs. T. McKenzle, six; Mrs. Lester Read, four; Mrs. T. C. Ander son, four; Mrs. Roy Carlton, four; Mrs. T. M. Milford, one; Gordon Fish, one; and Mrs. J, C. Blntz, one. Rod ribbon win ners were Mrs. T. McKenzle, five; Mrs. Lester Read, five; Mrs, T. C. Anderson, three; Mrs. Roy Carlton, three; Mrs. T. M. Milford, one; Mr. Fish, one; Miss Hazel Flshwood, one. Donald Sheperd served as Judge for this section of the show. Weeds Featured The lowly weed acquired the rank of choice flowers In the arrangements stressing weeds. Suggestions for holiday enter taining were found in the Christmas and Thanksgiving arrangements. Two City Club Sections Meeting Two study groups of the Wo men's City club meet this week. The book section Is meeting Monday evening at the home of Mrs. T. S. Zimmerman, seven thirty o'clock, Mrs. R. G. Crakes to give the review. On Saturday afternoqn, the poetry and drama group will meet at the home of Mrs. Ralph C. Crow, two-thirty o'clock. Mrs. Lee Glddings will read "Our Town." WOMEN of the Moose will hold a card party Monday aft ernoon at two o'clock, at the Moose hall. DAUGHTERS of Union Vet erans will meet Wednesday evening at seven-thirty o'clock, at the W.O.W. hall, holding first nomination of officers. Ar ticles left from a recent bazaar are to be sold at cost to menw bers before the meeting. AT THE meeting of the Ladles of the Elks the past Thursday afternoon, Mrs. H. D. Help Club Fund The hospitality committee, Mrs. Manning Barber, chair man, served pie, cake and doughnuts, for a small charge, netting a nice sum of money for the clubhouse. The fund for the purchase of more chairs, is also growing. Tha November meeting of the club, held the first night of the show, was well attended and much interest shown in the program on roses. Mrs. John I. Hawkins brought out the uses of the pillar method of growing roses In tho small garden In her tnlk on "Roses in your garden." Her points wero further illus trated in the slides of the Seat tle Rose society, loaned by Dr. A. H. Norton. As Dr. Norton was unable to attend, these slides were shown by Mrs. Fred Broders with comments by Mrs. Hawkins. Mrs. Frank Boyer mentioned new heathers in her report of "What's new In Horticulture." She also de plored the burning of leaves, as seen In Eugene, "as leaves In the compost heap make soli for next year's garden." Mrs. Merle Saunders conducted the ques tion box. Io War Work Mrs. Fred Broders announc ed that the Eugene Garden club is making about five hun dred Christmas "sprays for trays" for soldiers In the hospi tal at Camp Adair. The Eugene Garden club, with the garden clubs of neighboring valley towns. Is thus helping to brighten the Christmas of some twelve hundred sick or Injured soldiers in the hospital there. Members are asked to bring greens and make tha sprays at the clubhouse. On Monday, Nov. J2, mem bers are requested to be at the clubhouse to complete the ar ticles that are to be for sale at the Public market booth, be. ginning Nov. 37. The next meeting of the club will be a Christmas party at the clubhouse, Dec U AAUW Unit Aids With Projects Following out the program1 of the state organization of the American Association of Uni versity Women, members of the local branch are assisting in sewing for Russian relief. At the book section of the AAUW, meeting Tuesday eve ning, seven-thirty o'clock, home of Mrs. R. P. Sutton, 745 Nine teenth Avenue east. Members are asked to take their needle's and thimbles to work on cloth ing for Russian war relief. Mrs. Karl Patterson will give the re view. Aid Stamp Sale Members of the AAUW worked Saturday at the war stamp booths at Newberry and Miller stores, assisting Re Actlve club, which sponsors this project. The AAUW mem bers working were Mrs. R. P. Sutton, Mrs. Carl Webb, Mrs. J. R. Jewell, Mrs. Robert Mc Clay, and Mrs. Arthur A. Priaulx. WILLAMETTE court, Order of the Amaranth, will meet Monday evening, eight o'clock, downtown Masonic temple. There will be initiation, fol- ' lowed by entertainment Mrs. E. C. MARY'S guild, St. Mary's Episcopal church, is meeting Friday of next week, instead of Wednesday, the usu al day, because of Thanksgiv ing. The Friday meeting will be all day, at the parish hall, each to take her sandwiches for the luncheon. Being welcomed back to the community after being away sev eral years are Mr. and Mrs. Verne Cheshire and boys, Richard and Ronald. They lived at Bonneville. Pittenger, Eugene marine corps recruiting office. Mrs. Evans, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Mitchell, Eugene, was graduated from Eugene high school and the University of Oregon. She is a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority on the campus, serving her chapter as president one year. She will leave for Camp Lejeune, N. C, after the Christ mas holidays. BLACBXT NOTES BLACHLY Mrs. Nora Luckey of Nebraska spent a few days here with Mrs. Anna Pontius and her niece, Mrs. Ruth Slayter. Mrs. Vera Ogden left this week for Oak Harbor, Wn., to attend the funeral of her granddaughter. Mrs. Maude Bailey has taken over the mail route from Blachly to Horton. Mrs. Dill Barrows has been running this route. Mrs. Bill Slayter and children, Gene and Patty Lou, and Mrs. Ed Johnson spent a few days with Mrs. Slayter's sisters in Portland. Al Robinson is spending several days here with his mother, Mrs. Muriel Robinson. Betty June Taylor is visiting her aunt, Mrs. George Watson, in Junction City. ' Mr. and Mrs. Al Noble and son have moved to Springfield. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smith and son will move into the house vacated by the Noble family. His sister, Mrs. Fran ces Bandy, who has been caring for her mother, left for her home in Colorado. . Mrs. Charles Arnold returned recently from Omaha, Neb:, where she visited hr sister. Her sister and baby returned here with her and will spend the winter here, as her husband is in the army. Both are daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ortloff. Mr. and Mrs. Swinney went to Lebanon Sunday and brought their daughter, Lola, home with them. She had been staying with a brother and going to school there. She has started to Crow high. Mr. Miller, of Alpine, has been visiting his granddaughter. Mrs. Paul Bloom, and family. His son, Wes Miller, came after him to at- tend the funeral of a relative. Illness Fatal to Child from Shedd SHEDD The four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Otha Turman, who was .taken to e Eugene hos- pitaL died t the hospital Thurs' day. His parents and three older children survive. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Gowey have received the Purple Heart award ed posthumously to their son, Claude Oliver Gowey, who lost his life during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec. 7, 1041. He was fire man first class, a member of the crew of the battleship Oklahoma, which was sunk during the at tack. Besides his parents sister, Rosella Gowey, of Albany, sur vives. The family came here re cently from Iowa. A Triple-A meeting was held recently in the W.O.W. haU for the joint purpose of electing commlt- teemen and making applications for the milk subsidy. George Chandler spoke on affairs throughout the county, end John Hanson, 4-H club leader, assisted with the applications. The fol lowing committeemen were elect ed: C. H. Brown, chairman; Frank Pimm, James Dickson, Robert Quick and Elza Morgan. The girl scout troop met at the home of their leader, Mrs. Davis Latimer, recently. Anyone who has anything he wishes to contribute toward the Christmas treats for the younger children is asked to leave the do nation at the home of Mrs. Hall. Candy, nuts, apples, popcorn, etc. will be appreciated. Mrs. Kail, Mrs. Lamoreaux, and Mrs. Hileman are in charge of preparing the treats, Lone Pine Women's club met last week at the home of the pres- ident, Mrs. J. H. Balzhiser. Mrs. Brougher announced that anyone wishing to give a Christmas gift to the Alice Marie home should leave it with her. Word Received From Private Eachus, WAC ALPINE Mr. and Mrs. Guy Eachus received word recently from their daughter, Private Kathleen Eachus, WAC, stating that she is now stationed at a port of embarkation. .Private Eachus enlisted during the past summer and completed her basic training at Fort.Des Moines in October. Mrs. Henry King and children and her sister, Mary Louise Kylie, moved recently from Alpine to Eugene. About 75 women gathered at the Alpine church basement re cently for a bridal shower, hon oring Miss Clara Dayhoff. Mrs. Joel Johnson, of Corvallls, and Miss Helen Davidson assisted Miss Dayhoff to open the gifts. Mrs. Guy Eachus, Mrs. Arthur Kyle, Mrs. Robert Kyle, Mrs. Da vid Noble and Mrs. L. C. Davidson acted as hostesses. Women from Monroe and Bellfountain as well as Alpine were in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. George Davenport and family have moved from their home Just south of Alpine to the home of Mrs. Carrie Carr near Monroe. Mrs. Carr is Mrs. Dav enport's mother. Coburg Aid Society -Serves Benefit Tea COBURG The Methodist Aid society held a silver tea in the social room of the church recently. The Thanksgiving motif was used in decorating the table. Rev. and .Mrs. W. B. Empey and Mr. and Mrs. E. Warne Empey were guests. The committee in charge included: Mrs. Douglas Wassom. Mrs. E. O. Zinser and Mrs. Daisy Pirtle, the latter assisting in the place of Mrs. W. T. Bettis. Mrs. Herbert L. Van Duyn en tertained the Coburg Helping Hand club at her home in Eugene, recently. Four new members, Mrs. E. O. Zinser, Mrs. James Green, Miss Lola Allingham and Miss Alma Allingham, were taken into the club. The birthday anniversary of Mrs. Van Duyn was remem bered with a gift.
