that each city unit have at least

P-TA council meeting.
Mrs. A. R. Fredrlckson,
regional state vice-president,
reported that each unit Is sup
posed to have at least two sub
scriptions to the national P-TA
magazine.
Mrs. Glenn A. Harnden, re
porting for the home nursing
work of the Red Cross, urged
as many ss possible to take
these courses.
Mrs. Naomi Nichols, assistant
county Juvenile officer, dis
cussed the Juvenile delinquency
problem.
Representing the work of the
seal sale drive, Mra. H. B. Free
land, secretary at the Lane
County Public Health associa
tion office, presented a pro
gram on the seal sales.
Miss Maud Carnett, state and
county P-TA music chairman,
led the group in singing.
Next meeting will be the

Of Interest; Members
Do Work For Hospital
Many visitors enjoyed the
display of chrysanthemums at
the flower show of the Eugene
Garden club, held this past
week. A table of the large
Turners occupied the center of
attention. Many other inter
esting types, especially tho
Spider type, were displayed.
The grand prize winner In the
horticultural section was the
lavender Turner "Rose Day,"
exhibited by Gordon Fish.
Other blue ribbon winners for
their Turner entries were Mrs.
Roy Carlton, a white; Mrs. T.
C. Anderson, a red and a
bronze; Mrs. T. McKenzle, a
yellow, and Mr. Fish, a laven
dar. Winners of blue ribbons in
the other divisions of the horti
cultural section were: Mrs. T.
McKenzle, six; Mrs. Lester
Read, four; Mrs. T. C. Ander

Help Club Fund
The hospitality committee,
Mrs. Manning Barber, chair
man, served pie, cake and
doughnuts, for a small charge,
netting a nice sum of money for
the clubhouse. The fund for the
purchase of more chairs, is
also growing.

the show, was well attended
and much interest shown in the
program on roses. Mrs. John I.
Hawkins brought out the uses
of the pillar method of growing
roses In tho small garden In her
tnlk on "Roses in your garden."

tle Rose society, loaned by Dr.
A. H. Norton. As Dr. Norton
was unable to attend, these
slides were shown by Mrs. Fred
Broders with comments by
Mrs. Hawkins. Mrs. Frank
Boyer mentioned new heathers
in her report of "What's new
In Horticulture." She also de
plored the burning of leaves, as
seen In Eugene, "as leaves In
the compost heap make soli for
next year's garden." Mrs. Merle
Saunders conducted the ques
tion box.
Io War Work
Mrs. Fred Broders announc
ed that the Eugene Garden
club is making about five hun
dred Christmas "sprays for
trays" for soldiers In the hospi
tal at Camp Adair. The Eugene
Garden club, with the garden
clubs of neighboring valley
towns. Is thus helping to
brighten the Christmas of some
twelve hundred sick or Injured
soldiers in the hospital there.
Members are asked to bring
greens and make tha sprays at
the clubhouse.

clubhouse to complete the ar
ticles that are to be for sale at
the Public market booth, be.

Lebanon Sunday and brought
their daughter, Lola, home with
them. She had been staying with
a brother and going to school
there. She has started to Crow

tend the funeral of a relative.

of Mr. and Mrs. Otha Turman,

day. His parents and three older
children survive.

received the Purple Heart award
ed posthumously to their son,
Claude Oliver Gowey, who lost his
life during the attack on Pearl
Harbor, Dec. 7, 1041. He was fire
man first class, a member of the
crew of the battleship Oklahoma,
which was sunk during the at
tack. Besides his parents sister,
Rosella Gowey, of Albany, sur
vives. The family came here re
cently from Iowa.

joint purpose of electing commlt-
teemen and making applications
for the milk subsidy. George
Chandler spoke on affairs

from their daughter, Private
Kathleen Eachus, WAC, stating
that she is now stationed at a
port of embarkation. .Private

summer and completed her basic
training at Fort.Des Moines in
October.

moved recently from Alpine to
Eugene.

society held a silver tea in the
social room of the church recently.
The Thanksgiving motif was used
in decorating the table. Rev. and
