There were four bids, two by Portland firms and two by companies on Puget Sound.' The .repairs are those that are authorized to be made .every nine months on the light vessels. . ,f -v,1-.,-; i : , , Those, who submitted tenders were Alblna Engine & Machine works, $638.75; Vulcan Iron1 works, $628.25, both being Portland firms; Hall Brothers, , Wln--elow, $498; and the Hef reman Dry dock & construction company, Seattle, $620. , However, there are many optlonut Items in addition to the regular work that was bid on and with these and the expense 4f taking the lightship up the coast, it is estimated that' the bid , of the Alblna Engine & Machine. works .is the lowest. -.' Lightship No. "88 Is now at the buoy depot at Tongue Point, where she was brought more than a week ago to await the result of the opening of the bids. Wis was replaced on her station by the relief light vessel, which will remain . there until the regular vessel Is ready to take up her position off the mouth of " the Columbia. . After making the first of the Sunday summer excursion runs to Oregon City next Sunday, the steamer Oregona, of tho Oregon City Transportation com pany's line, will be tied up for cleaning and' painting.- The steamer Pomona was Inspected yesterday and will' go on the Oregona's run while the latter Is being painted. As usual during the summer three round trips will bo made Sunday, leaving here at 9 in the moro ns-, at noon and at 8 in ine anernoon.
