SUBSCRIPTION RATES One Year - - - fl 50 Six Months - - 75 Three Monthi - 50 The Commissioners' Court at its special session on June 12 did a wise and satisfactory thing when they gave each of the two districts now teaching the higli school courses Newport and Toledo equal as-' sistance in high school work. The voters at the recent election asked for a county high school, and will now have it. The Court decided to also let the voters at next regular primary election say where the county high school shall be located. In the meantime by the arrange ments with the two districts, the high school work will be carried on. And now comes the season when the sweet girl sips ice cream Boda. Pa gets out the lawn mower and rounds out the day's work by sever al hours additional labor. Ma works overtime ironing shirtwaists for daughter to wear while sipping ice cream soda. Portland, Or., June 15, 1908 While clyclones and floods are visiting the South, East and Middle West, and the rising waters are de stroying millions of dollars worth of farm and city property, Oregon is enjoying beautiful weather, de licious fruit, and looking forward w ith the confidence inspired by as sured crops this Fall. On June 21th Portland business men will be the guests of Eugene. A special train will leave for the University town at seven in the morning and the party will partici pate in the opening of the new de pot there, will attend the Com mencement Exercises at the Uni versity and be entertained at a re ception tendered by the Eugene Commercial Club. The house warming of the Port land Commercial Club in its new eight story steel home, which was held last Friduy night, brought to gether a large and enthusiastic body of prominent citizens, and it was probably the happiest event that has occured in this city since the Lewis and Clark Exposition . Airship races will be one of the many attractions at the Alaska-Yukon- Pacific exposition. The New York Aero club is taking great in terest in the matter. The Un ited States government will Bpend $600,000 for its buildings and exhibits. The management of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition is already taking steps to provide against ex tortion of visitors while in Seattle to see the big fair during the sum mer of 1909. Seattle easily took care of about 200,000 during the stay of the Atlantic fleet and at no time during the exposition period will there be as many visitors in the city at once.
