Mr. Frederick, of the firm of Fred erick & Nelson, Seattle, who Is return ing: from an extended visit in Chicago, arrived fhe latter tart of the week for an indefinite stay at Gearhart. Harold Oirton, who is recuperating; from a severe illness, will be at Hotel Gearhart for the season, and will be joined week-ends by his mother, Mrs. Olive Glrton. Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Sands and W. B. Holton, of New York City were week end guests at Hotel Gearhart. Mr. Sands is a capitalist of New York and the party are making a tour of the raclfic Coast. Mr. and Mrs. James D. Hart and Miss Katherlne Hart have engaged a suite of rooms at Hotel Gearhart for the Siimraer, and are expected to arrive about mid-July. Mr. and Mrs. Gay Lombard have also arranged for a suite of rooms at Gear hart Hotel for the season, and will ar rive the first Of this week. Mr. and Mrs Elliott R. Corbett left Monday for a trio through Southern Oregon and upon their return they will occupy again their cottage at Gearhart. Mrs. Henry Ladd Corbett arrived Mon day, and will pass the rest of the sea son at Gearhart. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Dayton, of Seattle, ar6 proving more popular than in pre vious years, and are interspersed with Jolly bonfire parties on the beach. John McQuinn and family are estab lished in a cosy cottage on the beach. Mr. and Mrs. Burt Hicks and daugh ters, the Misses Lillian, Helen, Susan and Elizabeth are domiciled in their cottage for the Summer, and have as guests Miss Violet McCarl and John Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. P. Hughes and family arrived the early part of last week and are now occupying their cottage. "Cosy Corners," an attractive cottage. Is occupied by Mrs. Carl Evans and family. Mrs. Evans is going to attend the Potlatch in Seattle and will return to Long Beach. Mrs. E. J. Dougherty and daughter ar among the recent arrivals in cot tages. Mrs. H. V. Kiel. Dorothy and Villard Kiel are in a cottage for the season. Mrs. C. W. Cardlnell has a cottage on the beach and Is entertaining Miss Louise Dolph. Mr. ahd Mrs. M. McCormiek are es tablished In "Stella Mora" cottage. Mr. and Mrs. J. Withers, of Spokane, and their daughter. Miss Mildred, are among the week's arrivals occupying cottages for the Summer. Mrs. J. Bambrlck, of Boise, Idaho, is also a visitor in Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Dilley are also in a cottage at Newtons. Mr. and Mrs. -H. B. Stout have re turned to Portland on business for a (Special.) Mrs. Ethel Witmer passed the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Manners. Russell Johnstone, of Portland, was a week-end guest of his parents. Miss Lois Ladd left last week for Portland for a brief stay. Ralph Knight passed several days with his mother, Mrs. R. B. Knight in her cottage. Among the Portlanders at Hotel Sun set during the week were Mr. and Mrs. C. Christiansen, Harry Gevurtz, MIbS Grace Hammer, Miss D. M. Bowman, A. A. Bowman, Mrs. Gannett L. Duder, Miss L. Duder. Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Smtih. Joseph Beverldge and Edward Langley, of Seattle. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Zimmerman are occupying a cottage for the Summer. Miss V. J. Calder is in her cottage for the Summer. Mrs. R. J. Marsh and daughter. Miss Mildred, are among the week's arrivals at Beach Center. They are occupy ing the Smith cottage on the Boulevard. Breakers Opens Social Season. BREAKERS. Wash., July 12. (Spe cial.) The first social affair of the Summer season at Hotel Breakers was an "oyster bake" on Shoalwater Bay, Saturday. The patrons of the hotel drove over to the bay and passed the day. Among those registered at the Break ers during the week were: Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Blauvelt. Mr. and Mrs. C. Judge and Mrs. J. P. Kavanaugh and family arrived Saturday and opened their cottage on Ocean avenue for the Season. . V. E. Prudhomme passed Saturday at Hotel Gearhart, superintending the completion of his new cottage, and re turned again on Monday with his fam ily, who will pass the rest of the sea son here. Mrs. C. H. Lewis and Miss Sallie Lewis are expected this week to oc cupy their cottage on Ocean avenue for the rest of the season. The Mills boys and Gordon Vocrhies, Jr., came down Saturday to open the cottage, and will remain indefinitely. Judge Alexander Sweek, of Portland, and his brldo, who are Just complet ing a- wedding trip by motor, were the first party to motor from the Sound citv tu Hotel Gearhart this .season. They arrived on the Fourth. They also attended the regatta in Astoria, and their guests included Miss Rhea Joslyn and Miss Vapton, of Montana. Mrs. N. E. Ayer and daughter. Miss Margaret Ayer, arrived Thursday at Hotel Gearhart to pass the rest of this month. Mr. and Mrs Felix Frledlander are occupying their attractive cottage on the beach for the season. Mr. and Mrs. Graham Glass. Graham Glass. Jr.. Miss Ethelwynne Glass and her truest. Miss Jean Morrison, re turned to Portland Sunday after a de lightful visit at Hotel Gearhart. W. L. Morgan, Admiral of the As toria regatta, and family, arrived the latter part of the week and opened their cottage for the season. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Crane are estab lished in their cottage In the Meadows for the season. Mrs. George W. Kleiser and family are occupying the Dr. George Marshall cottage on the ocean front for the month of July. John Latta passed the week-end with his family. Mr. and Mrsv Charles Whitley and Timothy Kinney, of Salt Lake City, and Mrs. James Dougherty and son "Jack." arrived Saturday and opened the Fouil houx cottage on the ocean front for the season. Mrs. Chester G. Murphy accompanied them for a short visit. A Jolly house party passing the week in Gearhart included Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Cleveland, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frank and Mr. and Mrs. James Alex ander Ellis. The women enjoyed i week's visit at the beach, and were Joined by their husbands over the weey- end. Mr. and Mrs. Oskar Huber and the Misses Dorothy, Winnifred and Eliza beth arrived Saturday and opened their attractive new cottage on the ocean front. They have as a guest for a few days William Wheeler, of Portland. Their horses arrived on Wednesday, and they plan to have many horseback trips around the beaches. Mr. and Mrs. Russell B. Caswell and the Misses Nadine and Suzanne Caswell arrived Tuesday and will" pass the rest of the season in their cottage on Cot tage avenue. They also had their horses sent down. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Slmmonds. of Portland, arrived Saturday and are occupying their cottage for the Sum mer. O. W. Taylor passed the latter part of the week with his family. Elliott R- Corbett was also a week end visitor in Gearhart, and Egbert Mersereau and J. L. Cowing passed the week-end as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Corbett. Mrs. W. G. MacGregor is occupying the Grassmere cottage for the season. She arrived on Monday with her fam ily, and will remain in Gearhart The attractive new cottage built by K. O. Parker and family, of Boise, Idaho, are established in a cottage for the Summer. Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Steele are among the cottagers at Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Stringer, of Port land, are also occupying a cottage for the Summer. LONG BEACH IS ATTRACTIVE Dances Given Three Times Weekly Joy to Visitors. LONG BEACH, Wash., July 12. (Special.) Each day brings a number of visitors to Long Beach and the cot tages are practically all occupied. SEAV1EW, Wash., July 12. (Spe cial.) Bonfires, marshmallow roasts and excellent surf bathing have been features of the past week in this de lightful resort. The splendid tennis courts will be ready next week, and a large number of the younger set have subscribed to the membership of the club. One of the largest affairs of the week was the marshmallow roast at which Miss Phlla McDuffy was host ess recently. The guests, 20 in num ber, built a huge bonfire, and all gath. ered around, relating interesting anec dotes, singing and toasting the delec table marshmallow. Mr. and Mrs. J. Schwend are estab lished in a cottage for the season. Harry Scholtz and family are season cottagers who arrived last week. Mr. and Mrs. L Goldsmith are also occupying a cottage. Mrs. C.
