Music Millennium The Musical Theatre Company continues its 12th season, the Season o f Great American Musicals, with Victor H erbert’s enchanting operet ta Babes in Toyland, runningthrough December 18, 1994, at the Eastside Performance Center, 531 SE 14th and Stark. Performances are Decem ber 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 8:00pm, and December 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 2:00pm. In a move to accom modate the high demand for special ly-priced $6 tickets for children 12 and under, the company has added additional Saturday m atinees on December 3,10 and 17. T arget Stores, a subsidiary o f the Dayton Hudson Corporation, has partially underwrit ten this special ticket program for children. The Musical Theatre Company will present Babes in Toyland as an annual holiday tradition, much like other companies stage The Nutcrack er. Offeringsomething foryoungand old alike in its accessible plot, de lightful music and spectacular stag ing, Babes in Toyland is the ideal way to introduce chi Idren to the art o f musical theatre. Babes in Toyland will be direct ed by karen Boettcher-Tate, with sets by Carey Wong, choreography by Patti Benson, conducted by David kelly, lighting by Jeff Forbes and costumes by Sandra kaufrnan. The cast includes Michael Jones as the Toymaker, Barbara Irvin as Delphinia, Todd Hermanson as the evil private eye Peter Pinkerton, Gisela Powell as Jane and Ari Shapiro as Alan, among others, as well as a cast o f twenty children. Babes in Toyland recounts the adventures o f Alan and Jane, two young children who run away from home to the marvelous Toyland, a Babes in i ~>y. ,na, R: Gise,a Powell a, Jane, Michael Joi ¿s Bo Peep, Esther Fuller as Mother Goose, and An Shapiro as Alan magical place o f w. Iking. , i.g toys, created by the gentle Toymaker. Following the children is Pinkerton, an evil private eye who hatches a plot to steal the Toymaker’s plans for his own profit, nearly destroyingToyland in the process. In the end, Toyland is saved and the children reunited with their parents, and all endow ed.in a spectacular “ March o f the Toys.” Babes in Toyland features a number o f familiar storybook characters, in cluding R aggedy-A nn, H um pty- Dumpty, Bo Peep, the Mad Hatter, Jack Be Nimble, Red Ridinghood, Mother Goose and Alice in W onder land. In addition, Babes in Toyland contains one ofV ictor H erbert's most delightful scores, includingthe songs Auditions For Big River The Musical Theatre Company will be holding auditions for it’s upcoming production o f Big River on Monday, December 5 & Tuesday, December 6, 1994 from 7pm-10pm at the Eastside Performance Center. They are looking for a cast o f 19 including 4 black actors (one is a boy) and 2 black actresses. All roles need to be cast. Please prepare one song, an accompanist will be provided. Performances are March 17 through April 9, 1995 every Friday, Saturday at 8pm, Sundays at 2pm at the Eastside Performance Center. For an appointment please call 224-8730.
