Council Reinstates Banned Hurdler Hurdler Danny Harris, who was suspended from competition for cocaine use in February o f 1992 was reinstating by track and fields international governing body the International A m ateur Athletic Federation. Kulongoski warned University o f Oregon football fans about the possi ble perils involved in purchasing trip packages and game tickets to attend the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, C alifor nia on January 2. “We all are excited and proud that the University o f Oregon is play ing in the Rose Bowl.” Kulongoski said. “But in our excitement, we can't let our emotions get the better o f us. Alberta PRO SOCCER IS COMING BACK TO PORTLAND The Portland Firebirds profes sional m en’s outdoor soccer club will begin play in Portland in April 1995. The Firebirds are a m ember o f the United States Interregional Soccer League, a nationwide league with 72 teams, which is comparable in qual ity to AAA Baseball. The teams in the northwest division o f the USISL should include T acom a, Salem , Yakima, Portland and possibly other clubs. Soccer is growing in popularity in the United States as evidenced by the recent W orld Cup and is a sport that exemplifies agility and grace rather than size and strength. The Firebirds” players will be ambassa dors for Portland, for soccer, for the club and will be role models for young people. The Portland Firebirds are com mitted to excellence in promoting quality fami ly entertainment and seek to develop a long term relationship with the community.
