CALENDAR LITERARY ARTS “The America Syndrome: Apocalypse, War, & Our Call to Greatness,” author Betsy Hartmann, 6pm, down- town library. FREE. Kick the summer off right with the Museum of Natural and Cultural History’s Ready, Set, Get Outside, a June 20 Summer Solstice event. The museum has partnered with organizations geared toward adventuring in the outdoors for an all-in-one summer stop. Those organiza- tions include Wild Birds Unlimited and Whole Earth Nature School, which are each offering resources about ways to enjoy the outdoors. Friends of Trees will also be providing volunteer information about local tree planting. Oregon authors Ruby McConnell, Abby Phillips Metzger and Kathleen Dean Moore, all authors of outdoor- and nature-oriented books, will also be at the event. Ready, Set, Get Outside is chockfull of more hands-on activities as well. At 5:30 pm, guests can join a nature walk through the Whilamut Natural Area. There will also be live marimba music by the band Jenaguru in the museum courtyard, with a chance for audience members to practice on traditional Zimbabwean instruments. Claim 52 brewing, Coconut Bliss and Red Five Hotdog Co. will all be present with offerings of local food and beer. Ready, Set, Get Outside is 4-7 pm on Tuesday, June 20, at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History (1680 E. 15th Avenue) on the University of Oregon campus.
