w h i l e in C e n t r a l A m e r i c a th e v e r y s a m e a s p i r ­
a tio n s a r e v ie w e d a s C o m m u n is t in s p i r e d .
T h e r e a l i t y , w h ic h I b e l i e v e w e m u s t a lw a y s
k e e p in m i n d , i s t h a t in C e n t r a l A m e r i c a a tin y
p e r c e n t o f th e p o p u l a t i o n (2% ) o w n s a n d c o n ­
t r o l s a l m o s t a l l t h e l a n d a n d r e s o u r c e s (60%

o u t! I t r u l y b e l i e v e t h a t w i t h o u t U. S . i n t e r f e r ­
e n c e , th e p e o p le o f C e n t r a l A m e r i c a , l i k e th e
p e o p le o f E a s t e r n E u r o p e , w o u ld b e a b le to
r e s o lv e th e ir ow n p r o b le m s . I do n o t e v e n
s u p p o r t " h u m a n ita r ia n " o r " e c o n o m ic d e v e lo p ­
m e n t " a i d . In m y e x p e r i e n c e a n d o b s e r v a t i o n ,
t h i s w e l l - i n t e n t i o n e d a i d e n d s u p b e n e f i t i n g th e
b ig p l a n t a t i o n o w n e r s a n d l a n d h o l d e r s , a n d
n e v e r t r i c k l e s d o w n to t h e p o o r p e o p l e . I n s t e a d
