CERTTeam Practices Fire Safety The Siletz Community Emergency Response Team has started its training and underwent fire safety training on May 3. After learning fire dynamics and fire suppression, the team had a hands- on exercise to put out an actual fire. The CERT program goals are to promote emergency preparedness; de velop skills to respond to and cope with the aftermath of a disaster; and develop neighborhood self-sufficiency before, during, and after a natural or manmade disaster. Topics taught and completed by the participants include disaster prepared ness, disaster fire suppression, disas ter medical operations, light search and rescue, terrorism, disaster psychology, CERT organization, and the final drill. CERT participants will acquire the knowledge, skills, and abilities to not only help their family be better prepared for emergencies, but also assist their neigh borhood in becoming better prepared to take action when Siletz is threatened by a major emergency or disaster. Anyone interested in signing up for the training or in learning more about CERT can contact Dean Sawyer at 541-444-8298 or 1-8(X)-922-1399, ext. 1298; or email deans@ctsi.nsn.us.
