TRIBAL PROGRAM NEWS Over-Income Construction Application Guidelines Tribal Youth Education Employment (TYEE) Program The Over-Income Rehabilitation Construction program funds over-income families with a $5,000 grant for construc tion rehabilitation on the primary residence they own or families who have possessor rights to their home. Rehabilitation refers to repairs or renovations to the home, but does not in clude appliances, saunas, hot tubs, swim ming pools, etc. Over-income refers to tribal members whose income exceeds the income limits set by the Native American Housing As sistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA). These are listed as follows: Applications due June 17 1 2 3 4 $32,500 $37,100 $41,800 $46,400 5 6 7 8 $50,100 $53,800 $57,550 $61,250 If you are a Siletz Tribal member and have not received an over-income grant in the last five years, you can call the Housing Office to request an application. Applications, including proof of in come and mortgage, must be submitted to the Housing Office by July 31. The se lection process will be a lottery drawing of applications received by the deadline. Please call 1-800-922-1399, ext. 1322, or 541 -444-8322 if you have any questions. Siletz Tribal youth age 14-17 are invited to apply for the 2005 Tribal Youth Education Employment (TYEE) Program. TYEE is an opportunity for our youth to gain practical work experience over the summer. The program begins July 11, 2005, and continues until Aug. 19, 2005. Youth participants will complete 180 hours of paid work experience during the program. To qualify: You must be a Siletz Tribal member between the ages of 14-17 who resides within the 11-county service area and is returning to school in the fall of 2005. To apply: You will receive an applica tion in the mail. If you don’t, call or stop by the tribal office in your area. The contact person for each office is listed below. Bring verification to document the following: • Tribal enrollment • • • Age Proof of residence Social Security card or proof of ap plication for a Social Security card Current grade report • If the number of applicants exceeds the number of positions available, prior ity will be given to: • • Student Incentive Program Continues The Siletz Tribal Council established a Student Incentive Program to reward student achievements as they graduate from the following levels: • • • • • • • Head Start/Preschool Kindergarten Elementary School Middle School High School Adult Vocational Training Higher Education • Siletz News • • The Portland Area Office would like to congratulate the following Higher Education students for getting a 3.5 GPA or better during Winter Term 2005: Winona Butler, Rachel Severson, Sharmon Cook, Theresa Smith. Tobi Custer, Barbara Watson, Jedediah Fuhrer, Welo Watson, Michelle McKelvey, Rebecca Johnson Michelle McKelvey, Jedediah Fuhrer, and Welo Watson achieved 4.0 GPAs. The Portland Area currently has 31 students enrolled in the Higher Educa tion Program. If you are a college-bound high school senior or if you want to return to school to complete a two- or four- year degree, please, contact Katy Kaady at 503-238-1512 right away. Deadline for applications is June 30. The education specialist will submit the certificate for the student incentive and mail the incentive to the student.
