It’s Happening at Chinook Winds ... Derek Simmons Hired as Banquet Manager Derek Simmons, who has been hired as banquet manager for Chinook Winds Casino, has climbed the organizational ladder to success. He has been employed at Chinook Winds since April 1996, starting out in the “tent.” He initially was hired as a change person. Later he became a key person and finally was hired as houseman in the Banquets Department, where he worked for three years setting up banquets. In the summer of 2001, Derek Derek Simmons was promoted to banquet captain and now he has become the banquet manager. He has completed the most difficult training course there is - learning the job from the bottom up. Derek is a member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians of Oregon and a lifelong resident of Lincoln County. Lucky Buck Cash Cube Promotion Glass Galore Art Fair The Lucky Buck Cash Cube Promotion will take place on April 21 at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m. Three guests per session who are either playing blackjack or the slots will be randomly selected to enter the Cash Cube. Then each person will capture and place as much cash into the cash tray as he/she can in 30 seconds. One $1 bill will be designated as a “Lucky Buck” and its serial number will be displayed on the side of the Cash Cube. Any participant collecting the $ 1 bill that matches the serial number will win a bonus prize of $500. The winner must be a member of the Winners Circle to be eligible for the $500 bonus. The Spring Glass Galore Art Fair, Show, and Sale will be held at Chinook Winds Casino in the showroom from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 27, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 28. Incredibly beautiful works of art created by glass artists from the Pacific Northwest, encompassing various types of glass artistry, will be on display and for sale. Admission is free. “Always Guaranteed” BJ Tournaments Two blackjack tournaments will be held every weekendon Fridays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. Entry fee is only $40! Prize money ranges from $ 100 for 6th place to $2,000 for Is* place. Always $8,000 in prize money guaranteed each weekend. Always 100 percent of the entry fees paid as prize money. For further details, stop by the Winners Circle. by Teresa Simmons C O ASTAL R hythm & B lues R&B Hits the Coast The first rhythm & blues concert and dance held at Chinook Winds Casino takes place on April 27. This could be the start of something big! With three - yes three - well-known Northwest bands providing the entertainment, it’s going to be a blockbuster evening for everyone. And it’s not just for listening. When the mood hits you and you no longer can contain yourself, step out on the super-size dance floor and let it go. Patrick Lamb, Paul deLay, and Norman Sylvestor and their bands, celebrated musicians in the R&3,sphere, will each perform for 90 minutes. The concert will conclude with a grand finale master jam session. Paul deLay, considered one of the finest blues harmonica players and singer songwriters to be found, and his band are well-known in blues circles across the nation. The Philadelphia Enquirer recently printed, “For a bluesman, and he’s a great one, Paul deLay has the most infectiously bright spirit you’re likely to hear ... deLay doesn’t pull any punches, and like the best blues, his songs have the ring of truth that comes from real-life experiences.” The Norman Sylvester Band, featuring Norman “The Boogie Cat” Sylvester, started performing in the Portland area in 1985. The band has shared the stage with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Junior Wells, Otis Clay, Tower of Power, and many more national blues stars. The Patrick Lamb Band, featuring Patrick Lamb on sax and female vocalist Debra Crowe, will bring its own brand of jazz (a combination of funk, jazz, and modern pop) to this concert. Lamb has performed with and opened for such artists as George Benson, B.B. King, Kenny G., and Wynton and Bradford Marsalis, and has performed at the White House as well. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the music running from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. A food court and no-host bar, as well as non-alcoholic beverages, will be available. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. This event is open to guests 21 and over. Community Days Offers Family Fun Community Days in Lincoln City on April 14-21 offers wholesome fun for the entire family. Of special interest to out-of-towners is the Community Days Picnic and Ducky Derby on April 14, beginning at 11 a.m. at the D River Wayside.
