R&B Hits the Coast
The first rhythm & blues concert and dance held at Chinook Winds Casino
takes place on April 27. This could be the start of something big!
With three - yes three - well-known Northwest bands providing the
entertainment, it’s going to be a blockbuster evening for everyone. And it’s not
just for listening. When the mood hits you and you no longer can contain yourself,
step out on the super-size dance floor and let it go.
Patrick Lamb, Paul deLay, and Norman Sylvestor and their bands, celebrated
musicians in the R&3,sphere, will each perform for 90 minutes. The concert will
conclude with a grand finale master jam session.
Paul deLay, considered one of the finest blues harmonica players and singer
songwriters to be found, and his band are well-known in blues circles across the
nation. The Philadelphia Enquirer recently printed, “For a bluesman, and he’s a
great one, Paul deLay has the most infectiously bright spirit you’re likely to hear
... deLay doesn’t pull any punches, and like the best blues, his songs have the
ring of truth that comes from real-life experiences.”
The Norman Sylvester Band, featuring Norman “The Boogie Cat” Sylvester,
started performing in the Portland area in 1985. The band has shared the stage
with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Junior Wells, Otis Clay, Tower of
Power, and many more national blues stars.
The Patrick Lamb Band, featuring Patrick Lamb on sax and female vocalist
Debra Crowe, will bring its own brand of jazz (a combination of funk, jazz, and
modern pop) to this concert. Lamb has performed with and opened for such
artists as George Benson, B.B. King, Kenny G., and Wynton and Bradford
Marsalis, and has performed at the White House as well.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with the music running from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. A
food court and no-host bar, as well as non-alcoholic beverages, will be available.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. This event is open to guests
